Job description

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students and staff that make the university what it is.

The Department of Family Medicine of the Keck School of Medicine of USC provides care for every member of the family, across generations and over lifetimes. We aim to enhance the quality of life for underserved and vulnerable patients while educating future generations of highly skilled, compassionate primary care specialists. Our goal is to combine education, patient advocacy, and evidence-based research to advance family medicine and geriatrics.

USC Street Medicine is hiring a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine (Practitioner), to deliver care directly to patients experiencing homelessness in their own environments-under bridges, in encampments, and on the street. This is a unique opportunity to help advance the field of street medicine in Los Angeles, home to the largest unsheltered homeless population in the United States.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the APP will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and health maintenance services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician.

MacArthur Park Service Area Team
People experiencing homelessness in and around MacArthur Park face a significantly elevated risk of death, particularly from drug overdose. In response to this urgent need, USC Street Medicine is launching a new interprofessional team that includes an Advanced Practice Provider, Community Health Worker, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Substance Use Disorder Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Psychiatrist, and a Family and Addiction Medicine Physician.

This team will deliver comprehensive care addressing physical health, mental health, and substance use disorders for individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in the service area. Team members will also be supported by USC Street Medicine's broader system of care, including HIV Medicine, Women's Health, and Enhanced Care Management.

Although this is a Practitioner position, there will also be opportunities to teach Physician Assistant students, medical students, Family Medicine residents, and other learners during street-based rounds.

This is a unique opportunity to provide high-quality healthcare to patients with complex physical and behavioral health needs, supported by an experienced team of street medicine clinicians.

This is a full-time, exempt, in-person position based in Los Angeles, CA, with work conducted in the field. This role does not offer a hybrid or remote schedule.
The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Required Education: current Advanced Practitioner License (PA, NP, etc.)
Preferred Experience: 3 years, experience working with the homeless population, experience with treatment of Substance Use Disorders, experience with Primary Care and Mental Health treatments

The annual base salary range for this position is $145,000 - $155,000.

When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
