Our expertise spans various fields of Electrical Construction including Design/Build Services, Commercial Developments, Multi-Family, Mixed-Use, Industrial, Government, Institutional, and Communications projects. Job Summary:

The Electrical Foreman is responsible for coordination and supervision of the crew on their job site including helpers, apprentices and journey-workers in the assembly, installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial, industrial and large multi-family settings per NEC/NFPA 70 standards and job specification. The Electrical Foreman will coordinate the timeline to meet the construction schedule of the project by managing the crew, materials and equipment in an organized manner on budget, on time and in accordance with the project requirements.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Provide daily direction and communication to employees, ensuring they have adequate tools, materials, and follow policies and procedures according to code and job specifications.
  • Maintain daily logs for the assigned area, providing input and communicating with the immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage, motivate, and coach employees to maintain a high-quality work environment, ensuring team members perform at their highest level.
  • Manage a portion of larger projects, such as one-line diagrams, fire alarms, branch circuits, site lighting, and equipment.
  • Participate in meetings and take notes.
  • Pre-plan projects to stay at least two weeks ahead of the crew, ensuring work and materials are available; requisition materials as needed.
  • Work closely with the supervisor to develop and maintain a 3-week look-ahead schedule.
  • Prioritize tasks according to project and customer needs.
  • Update and maintain accurate as-built drawings and panel schedules for assigned tasks.
  • Take accountability and responsibility for quality control and productivity, ensuring work is done safely, correctly, and efficiently.
  • Create punch lists for the crew and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Communicate jobsite goals to employees at all levels within Goforth Electric, Inc.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other trades involved in the project.
  • Lead by example, producing high-quality work aligned with the vision and mission of Goforth Electric, Inc.
  • Monitor and enforce safety standards, setting an exemplary quality of work as established by Goforth Electric, Inc.
  • Orient employees to safety, logistics, and scope on the jobsite.
  • Clearly define and communicate employees' roles on the project, ensuring they understand how they fit into the overall job and the foreman’s expectations for their work.
  • Effectively communicate with superiors.
  • Supervise crews, participating when necessary in installing raceways, pulling wire, and mounting equipment; train apprentices and journeymen in these tasks.
  • Instruct the crew in electrical trade techniques and procedures, inspecting all work to ensure it meets project specifications.
  • Perform hot work if qualified and trained, with all necessary precautions in place.
  • Assist apprentices in completing Apprenticeship Paperwork, including hours and reviews.
  • Adhere to specifications, value engineering, and contract documents for installations.
  • Utilize electrical formulas to determine pipe fill, device and panel sizes, and disconnect requirements.
  • Lay out and organize assigned tasks for helpers, apprentices, and journeymen.
  • Ensure the company vehicle is properly cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintain a neat and presentable work area that is clean and tidy at the end of each day.
  • Stay informed of changing technology and the National Electrical Code for professional growth and development.


Minimum Qualification Standards:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial electrical work experience with a journeyman card OR
  • Minimum of 10 years commercial electrical work experience.
  • 2-3 years of crew leadership experience preferred.
  • Vocational or technical training in electrical and/or industrial maintenance and repair preferred.
  • NYS Apprenticeship Training preferred.
  • Preferred Safety Training: OSHA 10 or 30-hour, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license, free from major infractions, required.
  • Experience with hand tools, small and large power tools, reading contract drawings, studying work orders, building plans, and installation manuals to determine material requirements and installation procedures.
  • Experience in installing, assembling, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, conduit, cable, equipment, components, and devices, following electrical layout drawings and building permits.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises helpers, apprentices, and journeymen. Supervisory responsibilities include instructing and training in work methods; planning, scheduling, and assigning work; checking and approving work; conducting performance evaluations; recommending salary adjustments; making effective promotion recommendations; making final promotion decisions; determining disciplinary actions for unsatisfactory employees; and making final decisions to terminate unsatisfactory employees.
