What is contract work?

Contract Work is an arrangement between an employer and a person who works as an independent contractor—not as an official employee of the company. Businesses and government organizations hire independent contractors to perform all types of work—computer engineering, marketing, technical or content writing, construction, and more. If you have skills that companies need, then you can build a career as an independent contractor.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Manager, you need a strong understanding of contract law, negotiation, and risk management, often backed by a bachelor’s degree in business, law, or a related field. Familiarity with contract management software, document tracking systems, and sometimes certifications like Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM) is typical. Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills help you navigate complex agreements and foster productive relationships. These competencies ensure contracts are compliant, mitigate risks, and support organizational objectives effectively.

What are some common challenges faced by contract employees, and how can they be managed effectively?

Contract employees often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new work environments, managing multiple projects or clients simultaneously, and dealing with less job security compared to permanent roles. To manage these effectively, it's important to establish clear communication with supervisors, clarify project expectations upfront, and proactively network within the organization. Staying organized and flexible can help contract workers deliver high-quality results while building valuable professional relationships that might lead to future opportunities.

Job description

Care when it counts - from wherever you practice.

At Dutch, we're on a mission to make high-quality veterinary care more accessible, affordable, and supportive - for both pets and the professionals who care for them. We believe care shouldn't be limited by clinic hours or commute distance.

With Dutch, veterinary professionals can connect with clients for real advice, real prescriptions, and real impact - all from the comfort of home, supported by tools like our in-house EMR and digital workflows that help you focus on patient care.

Backed by leading investors, Dutch provides the stability and resources to support our team in delivering the highest standard of telemedicine care.

We're seeking experienced, Credentialed Veterinary Technicians to join our growing telehealth team. This is a flexible, remote opportunity ideal for tech-savvy, client-focused vet techs who want to make a real impact in virtual care while enjoying autonomy and convenience.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Engaging with clients: Connect with pet owners via the EMR messaging system, providing support, education, and guidance on their pets' health and well-being
  • Managing EMR tasks: Handle refill approvals, prescription requests, async case reviews, and renewals efficiently
  • Verifying and process prescriptions: Coordinate with partner pharmacies and ensure appropriate follow-up for client requests
  • Resolving pharmacy holds: Complete approvals and communicate with doctors and clients as needed
  • Supporting doctor coverage: Monitor shared veterinary admin communications and assist daily as needed
  • Collaborating cross-functionally: Provide feedback to improve processes, systems, and workflows
  • Participating in training and process improvement: Contribute to telehealth initiatives, compliance, and team development
  • Delivering top-tier client care: Provide empathetic, high-quality service while following clinical protocols and adapting to each case
  • Thriving in a fast-paced environment: Continuously learn and improve your skills to deliver excellent care
  • Growing: Opportunities to grow over time, responsibilities may expand to include more advanced clinical support and virtual care workflows
What You Bring to the Team
  • Passion for veterinary care: Driven to provide high-quality, empathetic support to pet parents
  • Strong communication skills: Confident in client education and collaborating with doctors and teammates
  • Independent and proactive: Manage priorities and tasks effectively with minimal supervision
  • Continuous learner: Eager to grow professionally and take on new challenges in telehealth
  • Tech-savvy and organized: Comfortable navigating multiple computer programs, EMRs, and telehealth platforms
  • Remote-ready: Professional home workspace with reliable internet (>100mb_down, >100mb_up, <10ms latency) and comfort sitting/standing at a computer for extended periods
  • Schedule & Availability: Must be able to maintain consistent availability during daytime Pacific Standard Time (PST) hours, including evenings and weekends. Preference will be given to candidates available Sunday through Thursday. While schedules generally remain within these timeframes, occasional adjustments may be required to meet business needs. Advance notice will be provided whenever schedule changes are necessary.
Qualifications
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, RVT)
  • 2-3+ years of clinical experience in small animal veterinary medicine; emergency or specialty experience is a plus
  • Comfortable using digital tools (telehealth platforms, EMRs, chat systems)
  • Empathetic, organized, and adaptable to a fast-paced, remote-first environment
This is a 1099 contractor role with the potential to transition to a W2 position based on performance.

You'll be supported by our Clinical Director, Vet Support team, and Customer Service team, and a streamlined platform that allows you to focus on what you do best: providing excellent care to pets and peace of mind to their people.

Compensation starts at $18/hour and will be determined by experience, location, and other factors.
