Job Description:
The SMB Presales Engineer serves as a trusted technical advisor supporting HPE Networking Account Managers, Channel Partners, and customers throughout the sales cycle. This role is responsible for helping small and medium-sized businesses modernize, secure, and simplify their network infrastructure through HPE Networking solutions.
The SMB Presales Engineer combines networking knowledge, consultative selling skills, and customer-facing expertise to position and recommend solutions across wired and wireless networking, network security, routing, SD-WAN, SASE, and cloud-managed networking environments.
Working in a high-velocity sales environment, the SMB Presales Engineer supports multiple opportunities simultaneously and partners closely with sales teams to drive customer success and business growth.
What you will do
  • Partner with account managers to develop account strategy, qualify opportunities, and drive technical wins across assigned territory

  • Lead discovery sessions to uncover customer business drivers, technical requirements, and modernization goals

  • Conduct technical assessments to evaluate current environments, identify gaps and risks, and define solution approaches

  • Design and architect end-to-end HPE Networking solutions across campus, branch, wireless, routing, SD-WAN, and security domains

  • Recommend solutions aligned to customer business outcomes, digital transformation initiatives, and modernization strategies

  • Deliver customized technical presentations, product demonstrations, and virtual engagements for both technical and executive audiences

  • Support the development of proposals, RFP/RFI responses, bills of materials, and solution documentation

  • Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and specialists on complex or multi-domain opportunities

  • Maintain deep expertise across HPE Networking portfolios (Juniper/Aruba-including wired, wireless, routing, data center, and SASE)

  • Stay current on industry trends such as AI-Ops, Zero Trust, NaaS, AI-driven networking, and campus fabric evolution

  • Analyze competitive technologies and articulate HPE differentiation in customer conversations

  • Continuously expand technical and industry expertise through certifications and professional development

Who you are
Experience
  • You have 3-5 years of experience in pre-sales, sales engineering, or a customer-facing technical role, with a consultative approach to solving customer challenges

  • You bring a strong foundation in networking technologies (campus, wireless, routing, WAN), with exposure to modern architectures such as SD-WAN, SASE, or Zero Trust

  • You approach customer engagements as a trusted advisor, focusing on understanding business objectives and aligning technology solutions to measurable outcomes

  • You are skilled at leading discovery conversations that uncover both technical requirements and strategic priorities

  • You can translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-relevant value for a wide range of stakeholders, from engineers to executives

  • You are comfortable guiding customers through solution evaluation and decision-making, articulating tradeoffs, risks, and recommended approaches

  • You have hands-on experience with solution design and architecture, and can confidently map solutions to customer environments

  • You collaborate effectively across teams, partnering with account managers, architects, and specialists to deliver well-rounded solutions
