Job description

Eaton's Residential and Wiring Devices (RWD) Division is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team in Lincoln, IL. Relocation assistance is available to candidates currently residing in the US.
The Senior Design Engineer will create, develop, analyze and maintain product design in accordance with market need, at minimum cost utilizing modern manufacturing methods and in accordance with all acceptable codes and standards. They will provide manufacturing facilities with product information via modern methods of Bill of Materials and drafting practices.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Who we are: The Eaton plant in Lincoln, Illinois is a longstanding manufacturing facility within Eaton's Electrical Sector, with roots dating back to 1958 when Cutler-Hammer first established operations in the area. Today, our site employs more than 6650 people across production, engineering, and support functions, and serves as a key hub for the company's residential and wiring devices business. Our facility produces a range of electrical components-including load centers, metering devices, and meter breakers, -as well as products supporting solar and backup power applications, supplying customers across the United States and internationally.
What you'll do:
  • Develop, design, validate, and manage the implementation of new best-in-class product designs.
  • Translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria.
  • Assist in the development of the schedule and budget for new product development projects.
  • Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc.
  • Design, model, and test product prototypes.
  • Maintain and improve existing products through design and competitive analysis.
  • Work with other Eaton Electrical businesses as well as outside suppliers to develop new features and design opportunities for products within the product line scope and charter.
  • Safety responsibilities include safety and housekeeping objectives; follow all safety rules and procedures and report unsafe conditions to line management.
  • Act as project manager on a cross-functional team for development projects using PROLaunch product development process.
  • Take necessary measures to improve the quality of product and information in the respective area of responsibility.
  • Communication of new designs and product changes to all plants involved with the product line and monitoring of standards among all plants.

Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of experience in product design

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design and manufacturing of low and medium voltage power distribution products.
  • Experience with product life-cycle management systems and their structure.
  • Predictive analysis such as CFD (thermal flow), FEA (stress analysis), and electro-magnetic
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum - UL 50, UL 67, UL 891, and proper bus joint design.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with 3D CAD tools such as PTC Creo or Inventor.
