Job Title: Subarc Welder

Job Description

This role focuses on subarc welding rolled shells and cans for silencers and super heaters, primarily using carbon steel materials. The position also involves MIG and flux core welding on carbon steel pipe and structural plate, with responsibility for independently setting up and adjusting welding equipment to achieve high-quality welds.

Responsibilities

• Perform subarc welding on rolled shells and cans for silencers ranging from approximately 25 inches to 100 inches in diameter, with a primary focus on 60-inch outside diameter carbon steel cans.
• Weld carbon steel components used in super heaters and silencers, ensuring strong, consistent, and visually acceptable welds.
• Execute MIG and flux core welding on 8-inch to 14-inch carbon steel pipe when subarc work is not required.
• Weld structural plate components using appropriate processes and techniques to meet project specifications.
• Set up welding machines independently, including configuring subarc, MIG, and flux core equipment for each job.
• Adjust wire feed, travel speed, voltage, and other welding parameters to achieve proper penetration, bead appearance, and weld integrity.
• Perform back gouging as needed to prepare joints, remove defects, and ensure sound welds.
• Interpret work instructions and follow established welding procedures to maintain quality and consistency.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle equipment safely in a busy shop environment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support changing workload demands.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of hands-on subarc (SAW) welding experience.
• Proficiency in subarc welding of carbon steel shells, cans, and similar heavy components.
• Demonstrated experience in MIG welding on carbon steel materials.
• Demonstrated experience in flux core welding (FCAW) on carbon steel pipe and plate.
• Ability to perform back gouging to prepare and refine weld joints.
• Capability to set up and operate welding machines independently, including adjusting feed, speed, and other parameters.
• Solid understanding of welding safety practices and proper handling of welding equipment.
• Ability to work extended hours, including long shifts and frequent weekend work, as required by production demands.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• TIG welding experience is a plus.
• Fitting experience, including aligning and preparing components for welding, is a plus.
• Experience working with structural plate fabrication is beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
• Ability to adapt to varying workloads and different welding processes as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, air-conditioned shop environment designed to support heavy welding operations comfortably. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with most Saturdays and Sundays also scheduled, so candidates should be comfortable working long shifts and extended weeks, especially during busy periods. The position is an open-ended contract with consistent work expected through the end of the year and likely beyond. You will work with subarc, MIG, and flux core welding equipment and handle carbon steel pipe, plate, and large shells in a structured, production-oriented setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
