What is contract video editing?

Contract video editing refers to the process of hiring a video editor on a temporary or project-based basis rather than as a full-time employee. Contract video editors are responsible for assembling raw footage, adding effects, transitions, sound, and graphics to create a polished final product according to client specifications. They often work remotely or freelance and may handle various types of video projects such as commercials, social media content, corporate videos, or films. This arrangement provides flexibility for both the editor and the client, allowing access to specialized skills as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract video editor?

To thrive as a Contract Video Editor, you need strong proficiency in video editing, storytelling, and a solid understanding of post-production workflows, typically backed by experience or a relevant degree. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve, along with knowledge of file formats and codecs, is essential. Excellent time management, communication, and the ability to interpret client feedback are standout soft skills in this field. These skills ensure high-quality, on-brand video content delivered to client specifications and deadlines in a competitive freelance environment.

What are the typical challenges contract video editors face when working with multiple clients simultaneously?

Contract video editors often juggle multiple projects for different clients, which can make time management and clear communication especially important. Balancing various editing styles, brand guidelines, and deadlines can be challenging and requires strong organizational skills. It's common to use project management tools and maintain regular check-ins with clients to ensure expectations are met. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as priorities can shift quickly depending on client needs.

What is the difference between Contract Video Editing vs Freelance Video Editing?

Employer & Industry UsageHired by companies, production houses, or agencies for short-term or long-term projectsWorks with various clients across industries, often on a project basis

Contract Video Editing involves working for a company or agency under a fixed-term agreement, often with set hours and specific project scopes. Freelance Video Editing is more independent, with the editor managing multiple clients and projects on their own schedule. Both roles require strong editing skills and portfolios, but the work setup and employment terms differ significantly.

Are contract video editors still in demand?

Contract video editors remain in demand due to the growth of digital content, social media, and online marketing. They often work freelance or on short-term projects, requiring skills in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Job description

Wedding Film Editor (DaVinci Resolve Expert)

We are looking for a skilled and creative Wedding Film Editor to join our team. If you have a deep passion for storytelling, a sharp eye for visual aesthetics, and advanced expertise exclusively in DaVinci Resolve, we want to hear from you.

This role requires someone who can take raw footage and transform it into an emotional, high-end cinematic story. You must be able to work independently, manage your time effectively, and maintain a high standard of quality across all projects.

Compensation and Job Type

We are open to finding the right fit for this role and can structure the position in one of two ways, depending on the candidate:

  • A steady salary position for consistent, ongoing work.
  • A contract, paid per project structure for freelance editors looking to take on specific assignments.

Please indicate your preference (salary or per-project) in your application.

Timelines and Accountability

Our business relies on delivering films to clients on schedule. Meeting deadlines is a critical requirement for this position. We establish clear, reasonable turnaround times for every project, and candidates must be able to manage their workflow to hit those dates consistently. Failure to meet agreed-upon deadlines without a prior valid reason will result in the immediate termination of the contract or employment.

Client Privacy and Content Ownership

We maintain absolute privacy and data security for our clients. All raw footage, audio assets, project files, and rendered drafts are the exclusive property of our company. Editors have no ownership rights over any project assets. Under no circumstances are you permitted to share, upload, publish, or use any portion of the raw footage or completed films for your personal portfolio, social media, or any public platform without explicit written permission. A strict non-disclosure agreement must be signed prior to receiving any project files or asset access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit high-end, cinematic wedding films from start to finish.
  • Perform advanced color grading and color correction within DaVinci Resolve to maintain a consistent, premium look.
  • Craft compelling audio narratives using advanced sound design, sound effects, and audio mixing.
  • Select and license appropriate music using company-provided licensing platform subscriptions.
  • Organize and manage media assets, multi-cam syncs, and project backups.
  • Deliver the final DaVinci Resolve project file (.drp) or project archive (.dra) alongside the final video exports.
  • Incorporate client feedback and revisions efficiently while maintaining creative integrity.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Software Requirement: Absolute mastery of DaVinci Resolve. We are a DaVinci Resolve-only pipeline. Experience with Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro will not be considered for this role.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional video editing experience.
  • Niche Expertise: Proven portfolio of editing wedding films, with a strong emphasis on creative storytelling rather than just chronological sequencing.
  • Technical Skills: Strong background in color grading (working with LOG footage, color spaces, and matching different cameras) and professional sound design.
  • Data and Connectivity: Must have a high-speed internet connection capable of reliably downloading and uploading large volumes of footage and project assets.
  • Detail-Oriented: Exceptional organizational skills for handling large volumes of 4K footage and multi-camera setups.

Application Requirement

To be considered, you must include a link to your portfolio or wedding editing reel demonstrating your creative editing, color grading, and sound design work. Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
