Job description

Position Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Type: Full-time (onsite)
Position Location: Sanford, FL
Clearance: N/A (US citizenship required)

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a missionโ€‘critical contributor to the design and development of highโ€‘power and control electronics for our highโ€‘performance tethered drone systems. In this role you will work across the full PCB design lifecycle, from schematic capture through layout, test, and sustainment, delivering robust electronics capable of performing in the demanding environments our customers operate. The ideal person brings deep handsโ€‘on PCB design experience, strong analytical instincts, and the practical problemโ€‘solving skills to identify root causes and implement reliable solutions.

You will contribute to current and future Hoverfly electronics, collaborating closely with mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams to advance both product quality and team capability in a fastโ€‘paced, mission driven environment.

Development and Design
  • Design, develop, and maintain highโ€‘power and control electronics for aerial systems from initial concept through production
  • Contribute to all phases of PCB design including schematic capture, layout, and testing
  • Employ advanced PCB layout techniques
  • Utilize ECAD tools including Altium, Mentor Graphics PADS, Xpedition, Ansys, and HyperLynx for design and development tasks
  • Conduct electronics packaging with 3D modeling/CAD experience
Analysis and Mitigation
  • Conduct electronics failure analysis and implement mitigation strategies to ensure product reliability
  • Apply RF Systems/MIL-STD-461 knowledge and associated noise mitigation techniques
  • Develop and maintain documentation covering design, manufacturing, and test processes
Collaboration and Integration
  • Collaborate with mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams to support integration and production of electronic subassemblies
    Coordinate with contract manufacturers to ensure timely and quality manufacturing of electronic assemblies
  • Contribute to product roadmap discussions, including new features and product enhancements
  • Support design process activities including trade studies, design reviews, and requirements development
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering (or comparable)
  • 5โ€“7 years of electronics and/or PCB design experience
  • Demonstrated experience integrating Computer on Module (CoM) and/or System on Module (SoM)
  • Proficiency with Altium, Mentor Graphics PADS, Xpedition, Ansys, or HyperLynx (or equivalent)
  • RF Systems/MIL-STD-461 and associated noise mitigation experience
  • Experience debugging complex electronics using test equipment, analysis tools, and design data
  • Ability to thrive in a high-tempo environment and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong problemโ€‘solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Teamโ€‘oriented mindset with a focus on delivering highโ€‘quality results
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 C.F.R. ยง 120.62), which includes U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees, to meet export control compliance requirements
  • Willingness to travel as needed for demos, customer meetings, and relevant industry events (less than 10% annually)
