Contract Toyota Software Engineer information

What does a contract Toyota software engineer do?

A Contract Toyota Software Engineer is a software professional hired on a temporary basis to work on Toyota's software projects. They may be involved in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software systems used in Toyota vehicles or supporting business operations. Their work often focuses on automotive technologies such as embedded systems, connectivity, and vehicle automation, following Toyota's specific standards and guidelines. Contract engineers collaborate closely with other engineering teams, participate in code reviews, and ensure the software meets safety and quality requirements. They are typically employed through staffing agencies or as independent contractors for a specific project duration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Toyota software engineer?

To thrive as a Contract Toyota Software Engineer, you need strong programming abilities (especially in languages like C++, Python, or Java), experience with automotive software development, and a relevant degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with tools such as AUTOSAR, MATLAB/Simulink, embedded systems, and version control systems like Git is typically required, along with any applicable automotive certifications. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital for collaborating with teams and meeting project requirements. • Hands-on frontend experience with modern frameworks such as React, Next.js or Vue with the ability to review, troubleshoot and contribute to UI components when needed.

  • Understanding of application data flows, including how feature-level data is persisted, exchanged through APIs and events, and consumed across systems.

  • Strong quality mindset with experience in automated, functional, integration, and performance testing.

  • Strong troubleshooting and production-support skills, including observability, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.

  • Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience in automotive, lending, financial services, or digital commerce, particularly dealer or loan-origination platforms.

  • Experience designing event-driven and distributed architectures supporting high-volume transactional systems.

  • Experience balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership responsibilities.

  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, or similar tools.
