Preco is now hiring for a Full-Time Supplier Quality Engineer in Somerset, WI.
The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that externally sourced materials and components meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves collaborating closely with suppliers to evaluate their processes, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to prevent defects and enhance product reliability. The Supplier Quality Engineer analyzes supplier performance data, investigates quality issues, implements corrective and preventive actions, and supports new product development through supplier qualification and validation activities.
Preco is a leading designer and manufacturer of precision automated processing systems for high-speed and high-accuracy cutting, perforating, welding, and other specialized industrial processing applications. With our proprietary die cutting and laser-based manufacturing capabilities, Preco has also become one of the largest contract manufacturing service (CMS) providers in North America.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers based on quality systems, process capability, and risk assessment
  • Conduct supplier audits (on-site and remote) to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs such as defect rates, PPM, and on-time delivery
  • Lead root cause analysis and drive corrective/preventive actions using tools like 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone
  • Manage supplier-related nonconformances and ensure timely resolution of quality issues
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by approving supplier processes and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams to resolve quality concerns
  • Review and approve supplier quality documentation, including control plans, FMEAs, and inspection reports
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to enhance process capability and reduce variation
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines
  • Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers on quality expectations and best practices
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier quality activities, audits, and performance data.
  • Update and optimize supplier qualification procedures, work instructions, forms, and templates to improve efficiency, consistency, and compliance.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

Job Qualifications:
  • 4-year engineering/technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • 8 or more years of quality related experience.
  • Strong background in statistics, quality inspection methods, inspection equipment, AQL and ISO 9001 / 13485.
  • Understanding of following quality tools: FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, written communication, and computer skills.
  • 10-30% travel.
