Job description

Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer, PE to join our Structural team in any of our Des Moines or Ames, Iowa office locations. As a Structural Project Engineer you will work with project engineers and managers to complete preliminary and final design packages for various bridges and structures. They will create studies and reports, perform design calculations, assist in plan development, write specifications, review shop drawings and make field visits. Projects will range from highway infrastructure projects such as various interchange, pedestrian and river crossing bridges, to retaining walls and parking structures, to industrial buildings such as water or wastewater treatment facilities.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Perform detailed design computations
  • Project layout and design in MicroStation CONNECT and/or OpenBridge
  • Prepare and/or present preliminary reports and feasibility studies
  • Prepare, supervise and review the design and preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and quantity take-offs
  • Travel to work sites and other project related locations as required
  • Plan and organize project assignments by directing work of other engineers and technicians
  • Assist in the training and development of professional staff
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects
  • Support business development opportunities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
    • We may consider candidates who are within 6-12 months of obtaining their Professional Engineer license
  • 6+ years' progressive experience in the civil engineering field, including bridge design experience
  • Experience in plan and specification development with construction contract administration
  • MicroStation CONNECT, OpenBridge and/or OpenRoads proficiency
  • Proficiency in structural design and analysis software
  • Knowledge of State DOT requirements
  • Possess a valid driver's license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required
