Job description

OVERVIEW

Under direction of the General Counsel, the Associate Counsel assists in providing a wide range of legal services to the Casino including, but not limited to management of civil litigation, interfacing with law enforcement, drafting legal documents, commercial contracting, privacy and compliance, and related issues and generally providing advice and counsel on all aspects of the business. The Associate Counsel plays a meaningful role in the growth and continuous improvement of the legal team and processes. The Associate Counsel collaborates with senior leadership in the pursuit of developing simple solutions to complex issues.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Support Commerce Casino’s operational organization by providing sound and reasonable legal advice;
  • Draft, revise, review, negotiate and support leadership with commercial contracts related to vendor services, sponsorship, consulting, marketing, licensing, technology, privacy, cybersecurity, facility/building leases, NDAs and other agreements;
  • Remain current on all aspects of applicable laws and regulations to provide sound and timely advice and counsel on labor and employment issues.
  • Draft and review other commercial contracts, including licensing and supply chain;
  • Partner with commercial real estate management to draft, review and revise commercial real estate and tenant contracts;
  • Provide support to the legal department and leadership team with advice and counsel related to all aspects of the business;
  • Collaborate with executive and senior team members to provide advice and professional guidance on risks and suitability in furtherance of departmental and company goals;
  • Conduct research and provide advice and guidance on existing and emerging laws and regulations;
  • Provide support as necessary to other functions of the Legal Department, such as privacy/cybersecurity, policies and procedures, labor and employment, document retention, claims, litigation, compliance, and special projects, as assigned by the General Counsel.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of legal experience preferred in business focused environment.
  • Law degree from accredited legal program and member of the California bar in good standing.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in knowing when and how to raise issues to the appropriate level and propose solutions.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, negotiation and analytical skills; strong organizational abilities and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment, with a wide variety of legal issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build positive relationships across a wide variety of departments and levels and ability to be a problem solving partner with the various business units.
  • Ability to dive into details, understand business processes, and document procedures, policies and guidelines.
