Contract Session Border Controller Sbc information

What is a contract session border controller SBC?

A Contract Session Border Controller (SBC) is a network device or software application that manages and secures the flow of voice, video, and other real-time communications across IP networks, typically for organizations on a temporary or project-based contract. SBCs serve as a gateway between different VoIP networks, protecting against security threats, ensuring quality of service, and handling protocol interworking. Contract SBC professionals are hired to implement, configure, and maintain these systems for companies that need temporary expertise or support for specific projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract session border controller SBC?

To thrive as a Contract Session Border Controller (SBC) specialist, you need expertise in VoIP protocols, network security, and SIP trunking, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with SBC hardware/software (such as Oracle, AudioCodes, or Cisco), network monitoring tools, and relevant certifications like CCNP Collaboration are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set top professionals apart in this role. These skills are vital for ensuring secure, reliable voice communications and seamless integration of telephony systems across complex network environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by contract session border controller SBC professionals when integrating SBCs into existing network infrastructures?

Contract SBC professionals often encounter challenges such as ensuring interoperability between diverse VoIP platforms, managing security requirements, and minimizing service disruption during integration. Adapting to clients’ unique network topologies and legacy systems can require quick problem-solving and strong communication skills with IT teams. Effective SBC integration also involves ongoing monitoring and optimization to handle evolving traffic loads and security threats. Collaborating closely with network engineers and security teams is crucial to ensure seamless deployment and ongoing support.

Senior Wireless Network Engineer

Who We Are

ThinkTek LLC is a fast-growing Certified SBA 8(a) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in management and technology consulting for Federal Government modernization. We provide tailored solutions in Program & Project Management, Strategic Planning, and IT Operations.

Position Description

ThinkTek is seeking a Senior Wireless Network Engineer to support a Department of War client at the Pentagon in the National Capital Region. This role provides senior engineering support for a large enterprise wireless environment built on HPE Aruba Networking infrastructure. The work centers on a facility-wide access point life cycle replacement, and extends into helping the customer meet emerging mission requirements. The successful candidate brings depth in routing and switching alongside hands-on Aruba platform experience, has experience in secure facilities, and can translate new operational problems into workable solution architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior engineering support for Aruba wireless infrastructure, including mobility controllers and conductors, access points, and AirWave
  • Provide engineering oversight to installation crews replacing access points and cabling throughout the Pentagon
  • Plan and execute access point and controller life cycle replacement, including integration, cutover, and rollback
  • Support change management and authorized service interruption planning with Government operations staff
  • Serve as senior escalation for complex wireless faults, using packet capture, client session analysis, controller diagnostics, and targeted site surveys
  • Provide engineering expertise on ClearPass policy design, including 802.1X, EAP-TLS, certificate services, and role-based access enforcement
  • Assess emerging requirements and recommend wireless and mobility solution architectures to Government decision makers
  • Support cybersecurity compliance, including STIG guidance, vulnerability remediation, and configuration hardening recommendations
  • Produce configuration standards, network diagrams, integration and test plans, and as-built records

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret security clearance
  • 8+ years of network engineering experience, including 5+ years in enterprise wireless
  • Hands-on Aruba experience across ArubaOS mobility controllers, access points, ClearPass, and AirWave or Aruba Central
  • Demonstrated routing and switching capability, including VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, link aggregation, and subnetting
  • Working knowledge of enterprise mobility architectures and the ability to match capabilities to new mission requirements
  • Advanced troubleshooting across the wireless and wired stack, including packet-level analysis
  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments in an operational environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Current SCI access eligibility or active TS/SCI
  • Prior support to DISA, Joint Service Provider, or other DoD enterprise networks, ideally at the Pentagon
  • Experience deploying wireless capabilities in secure or classified facilities
  • Familiarity with NSA Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) deployments
  • CWNA or higher, or Aruba certification such as ACMA, ACMP, ACCA, or ACCP
  • Cisco certification such as CCNA or CCNP Enterprise
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level II or higher, such as Security+ CE or CISSP
  • Familiarity with RMF, STIG compliance, and wireless intrusion detection systems

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $170,030 – $178,020. This range is a good-faith estimate and not a guarantee of compensation. Final compensation will be based on factors including experience, education, skills, geographic location, internal equity, market data, and applicable contract requirements, and may fall outside the posted range.
