To thrive as a Contract RV Transport Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (often a Class A or B CDL), a clean driving record, and proven experience in towing or transporting large vehicles. Excellent time management, customer service orientation, and problem-solving abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are critical for delivering RVs efficiently and safely while ensuring positive client interactions and regulatory compliance.
A Contract RV Transport Driver is an independent contractor responsible for delivering recreational vehicles (RVs) from manufacturers or dealerships to customers or other locations. These drivers use their own trucks to tow RVs, typically under a non-employee agreement. They handle trip planning, fuel costs, and any necessary expenses while ensuring safe and timely deliveries. This role offers flexibility but requires meeting company requirements, maintaining a reliable vehicle, and adhering to transport regulations.
A typical workweek for a Contract RV Transport Driver often involves planning routes, inspecting assigned RV units for damage, securing loads, and delivering vehicles to designated locations across long distances. You may work independently most of the time but will frequently communicate with dispatchers and clients regarding schedules and delivery updates. Hours can vary depending on contracts, and you may spend several days on the road at a time. Flexibility and self-direction are important, as the job often requires adapting to changing delivery assignments and weather conditions.
