Glimpse of the Job

The Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator(s) conducting social science research. The selected candidate will perform duties specifically related to research activities, including data collection, database management, records management, data analysis, and literature reviews. The Research Assistant will also support activities related to focus groups, interviews, report creation, publishing, and proposals.

Salary: $45,000.00

Travel: Ability to travel across the State and overnight stay is required (site visits, focus groups, training, meetings, and conferences).

Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants/contracts, as well as, satisfactory job performance.

Opportunities to Contribute:

  • Support research and data management activities across multiple projects.

  • Manage and maintain project databases, records, and documentation.

  • Clean, encode, and analyze data to support reporting and project needs.

  • Develop dashboards, visualizations, and summary reports for stakeholders.

  • Assist with research tasks including literature reviews, data collection, and project planning.

  • Participate in meetings, focus groups, and interviews to gather information.

  • Provide support for proposal development and report preparation.

  • Collaborate with research teams to meet project objectives.

  • Assist with publications, presentations, and dissemination of research findings.

  • Represent the department at conferences and related events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or a related field such as Statistics, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Health, Economics, or Education.

A well-qualified candidate may also possess:

  • Experience conducting social science research (program evaluation, focus groups, interviews, surveys, data collection, data management, public policy).

  • Experience communicating and presenting information.

  • Experience writing and/or publishing research materials.

  • Knowledge of statistical programs such as Stata, R, or Python.

  • Experience working with data and large data sets within criminal justice, workforce, or education.

  • Experience creating dashboards.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Knowledge of work processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
