Job Description:

PLEASE NOTE: THE POSITION REQUIRES FREQUENT TRAVEL PRIMARILY THROUGHOUT EASTERN GEORGIA

Summary/Objective:

Under limited supervision, overseesthe engineering of plans, designs, costs and the coordination ofconstruction and/or maintenance activities. May also serve as a lead worker providing training to staff.

Essential Functions:

Reasonableaccommodationsmay be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Performing job site assessments to address barriers in the workplace and use sound engineering principles when making recommendations to the field staff.

2. Performing home site assessments to address access needs as they relate to employment while collaborating with Occupational Therapist and Rehabilitation Technologist.

3. Administer the department's residential modification services to include coordination with state approved vendors, and consumers.Duties include organizingassessmentsand obtaining necessary bids to complete services, drafting vendor contracts, overseeing home modifications and final inspection.

4. Administer the department'sAgrAbilityServices while collaborating with members of the Assistive Work Technology Team.

5. Administer the department's vehicle services to include coordination with Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialists, NMEDA qualified vendors, and consumers.Duties include organizing assessment and training services,generation of modification specifications, overseeing installation of equipment and final inspection.

6. Administer the department's mobility services related to independent driving to include coordination with physicians, therapists,vendorsand insurance representatives.Duties include scheduling and performing assessments, and final wheelchair fitting and delivery services.

7. Performing assessments for education and transition services.Duties include consultationwithfield staff and consumersregardingassistive technology and other available accommodation resources.Administration of these services to include coordination with schools and training programs.

8. Design, plan and coordinate services for special tooling, equipment andaccommodationsneeded forpersonswith disabilities which are not commercially available.

9. Provide drawings, specifications, and fabrication of prototype and deliverable equipment to consumers when customization is needed.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering orengineering technology from an ABET-accredited college or university and four (4) years of job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at thelower-levelEngineering 3 (ETP042) or equivalent position.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Preference will be given to applicantswho, in addition to meeting the required educationand experience,possessone or more of the following:

1. Bio Medical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and electricaldesignand fabrication experience in addressing barriers faced by individuals with disabilities.

2. Twoyears of technical experience applying adaptive technologies or performing site accommodations for individuals with disabilities

3. Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local Building Codes, and ADA codes as those apply to construction projects.

4. Working knowledge of body anatomy and disabilities.

5. Working fluency in ASL is a plus.

6. An activeATP Certification

Supervisory Responsibility:

Nonerequiredfor this position.

Work Environment:

This joboperatesin afield-based work environmentthat involveshands-onwork at client sites or remote locations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employeeis regularly required totalk or hear. The employeefrequentlyis required tostand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employeeis occasionally required tosit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to50pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depthperceptionand ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing ahigh-volumeworkload anddemandsa high levelof accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position.Reasonableaccommodationscan be made available to qualified individuals uponrequest.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This positionoccasionallyrequires long hours and weekend work.

Travel:

Travel isrequiredduring the business day, though the role can become travel-intensive without-of-areatrips.
