Job description

Because this position requires regular on-site work at our Creative Studios in Westlake, Ohio, we will focus on candidates who currently reside in Northeast Ohio.
Remote work and relocation assistance are NOT available for this role.
The Software Engineer is a fully contributing role responsible for developing, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting software applications and integration solutions that deliver business capabilities. This role independently completes well-defined work while partnering with senior engineers on complex design decisions and cross-system dependencies.
The Software Engineer works closely with agdigital and business professionals to analyze requirements, implement maintainable solutions, support system performance, and own assigned work through deployment and production support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with business users, analysts, and team members to understand, clarify, and document software and integration requirements.
• Develop, configure, test, deploy, and support well-defined application components and integration solutions.
• Implement integrations between internal and external systems using approved patterns such as APIs, file-based interfaces, scheduled processing, messaging, and real-time data movement.
• Work with senior engineers and architects to ensure solutions align with enterprise application, data, and integration strategies.
• Maintain working knowledge and documentation of how data is used, transformed, and maintained across assigned applications.
• Follow established development standards and contribute practical improvements to shared engineering practices.
• Use version control, build, test, and deployment processes consistently and maintain complete implementation documentation.
• Develop and execute unit tests and support system testing, user acceptance testing, performance testing, and defect correction.
• Troubleshoot application and integration issues, identify root causes for routine problems, and implement lasting corrections within assigned scope.
• Monitor and support production applications and integrations, including resolution of support tickets and post-go-live issues.
• Participate in small- to medium-scale project work and deliver assigned work across the full project lifecycle.
• Estimate assigned work, identify dependencies and risks, and communicate status effectively to technical and business stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional team activities.
• Identify opportunities to reuse existing capabilities, improve team efficiency, and simplify business or technical processes.
CORE ENGINEERING COMPETENCIES
• Security, privacy & ethical engineering: Apply secure coding, privacy-by-design, least-privilege access, secrets handling, data-classification, and vulnerability-remediation practices within assigned components and integrations.
• Reliability, observability & operational ownership: Build and operate assigned components with appropriate logging, monitoring, alerting, error handling, and recovery procedures; participate in incident response and follow-through.
• Quality engineering & automated testing: Define test cases and maintain automated unit, component, and integration tests; use continuous-integration checks and support user acceptance, performance, and regression testing.
• Responsible AI-assisted development: Use approved AI-assisted tools to support development, analysis, and documentation while validating accuracy, security, maintainability, and intellectual-property considerations; remain accountable for the final work.
• Documentation & maintainability: Produce and maintain design notes, interface contracts, deployment instructions, runbooks, and support documentation; refactor within assigned scope to improve readability and maintainability.
• Business & customer impact: Translate documented requirements into usable solutions and consider user experience, process impact, cost, supportability, and intended business outcomes in day-to-day decisions.
Experience Required:
Required Length & Type of Experience
• Typically 2+ years of experience in software development, application support, data, or system integration.
• Experience contributing across the software development lifecycle for custom applications, packaged solutions, legacy systems, SaaS platforms, or cloud-based solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Working proficiency in at least one programming language, application platform, or integration technology.
• Understanding of the SDLC, testing practices, source control, build processes, and development environments.
• Working knowledge of APIs, file-based integrations, data movement concepts, and relational databases.
• Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL and understand basic logical data models.
• Ability to analyze business processes and translate documented requirements into technical tasks and solutions.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills for routine to moderately complex issues.
• Ability to work independently within defined scope and collaboratively across a project team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with both technical and business audiences.
• Ability to work effectively using waterfall and Agile iterative delivery methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with one or more enterprise environments such as SAP, mainframe or legacy platforms, custom applications, SaaS solutions, cloud platforms, business intelligence, or material-handling systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, job scheduling, or workflow automation.
• Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Db2, or Oracle.
• Comfort using AI-assisted tools to improve development, problem-solving, documentation, or workflow efficiency.
Education Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.
Please ensure all information submitted in your application is complete and accurate. Verification of candidate information may be conducted during the hiring process.
