Contract Psych RNs most often work in inpatient psychiatric units, behavioral health facilities, or mental health hospitals, frequently joining teams for a set contract period. Contract Psych RNs often work through staffing agencies and may have flexible assignments in different locations.
To thrive as a Contract Psych RN, you need an active RN license, experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing, and strong assessment skills. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), restraint protocols, and crisis intervention certifications such as CPI or PMAB is often required.
