Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Finance Lead/ Controller  with experience in the Oil & Gas Engineering Services and/or Construction sector(s), to assist the F&A function within operations. This role will report into the Manager, Finance for the Wood Canada Limited, Conventional Energy business headquartered in Calgary.

The Finance Lead is responsible for ensuring all accounting entries within their individual area of control (i.e., project, contract, service line) is recorded in an accurate and timely manner. This involves the provision of timely reporting of financial data internally to business stakeholders and externally to the client. Furthermore, financial reporting will extend to forecasts, budgets and a "no surprises" outlook, together with ad-hoc financial analysis. In some cases, this also requires leading work processes within the finance team.

  • Ensure that all accounting entries are prepared accurately and in line with corporate deadlines
  • Supervise client billings and ensure unbilled is always current.
  • Ensure invoices are in accordance with the commercial terms of the contract
  • Analyze project margins and prepare P&L for business unit.
  • Calculation of billing and cost rates, and analysis of margins to manage profitability
  • Preparation of annual plan and quarterly reforecast in conjunction with Business Leadership and Finance team(s)
  • Responsibility for compliance with Financial Management Framework within the individual's sphere of control
  • Focus on cash collection, optimization of DSO and minimization of unbilled items together with ensuring these balance sheet areas are appropriately reconciled, analyzed and controlled
  • Liaising with external, internal and client auditors
  • Linkage with business manager and contracts administrator regarding any contractual aspects
  • Execution of various ad hoc financial analysis and tasks as and when required
  • Liaising with external, internal and client auditors
  • Reporting and presenting of financial performance to Business Leadership team and/or Finance Manager
Skills / Qualifications

Preferably having achieved or in the process of completing a recognized accounting qualification, such as CPA / CIMA / ACCA or equivalent.

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • 5-7 years full-cycle accounting experience.
  • People/ Process supervision skills
  • Advanced user of Excel (Pivot tables, formulas, graphs, v-lookups, links between spreadsheets)
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle preferred
  • Experience with Hyperion and Smartview required
  • Ability to build Smartview ad-hoc analyses
  • Good commercial knowledge
  • Customer focused - internally and externally
  • Ability to discuss issues clearly and concisely at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work proactively to analyze problems/issues and identify solutions
  • Highly energetic, good problem-solving skills and flexible to change
  • Self-starter, proactive and positive
