Job description

Construction Assistant Controller

We are an electrical contracting company seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Controller to join our financial leadership team. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy of our financial operations and compliance with complex construction industry requirements.

Assistant Controllers coordinate with external auditors, prepare schedules, and provide documentation for audits.

Team Supervision and Collaboration: Assistant Controllers may supervise accounting staff, provide training, and evaluate performance. They work closely with the Controller, finance team, and other departments to streamline financial processes and support strategic goals

Assistant Controllers prepare, consolidate, and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP or GAS. They analyze financial data, report on variances, and provide insights into management for decision-making.

Assistant Controllers will collaborate with Project Managers on job costing, billing status, and contract requirements.

General Accounting Management: They oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintenance of the chart of accounts.

Must have:

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both financial and non-financial teams.

· Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and comfortable working in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment.

JOB DUTIES:

· Assist in monthly financial and budget reports

· Quarterly 941 filings

· Familiar of various bank and credit card transactions/reconciliations

· Assisting in financial audits

· Familiar with Construction job costing and project accounting

· Construction contracts/change orders reviews

· Recording of GL accounts

· Familiar with construction billings using AIA documents,

· Assisting the controller/finance director with various duties

· Strong supervisory and management skills within the accounting/administration department.


EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Must have:

· 5 Years experience working as an assistant controller.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both financial and non-financial teams. Works in a professional manner.

· Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and comfortable working in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment.

· Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and construction accounting software

· Degree in Accounting or Finance

· Professional Certifications a plus

· Employment longevity

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

· Climb stairs multiple times a day

· Standing, Walking from one office to another.

· Bend, stooping, twist, lift

· Multiple hours of sedentary work

· Reading documents, computer screens, close, distant, depth and peripheral vision

· Hand/finger gross and fine manipulation handling documents and keyboard strokes

Pay: $35-$50 per hour, Full-Time 40 hours/wk. Mon-Friday
