General Responsibilities
The Merchant Risk & Compliance Analyst position will support our growing BIN sponsorship and merchant acquiring program. This execution-level role focuses on the day-to-day assessment of merchant credit, fraud exposure, and ongoing transactional risk. Reporting to the Senior Manager, this analyst will be the first line of defense in ensuring that sponsored merchant portfolios remain within the Bank's established risk appetite and card brand thresholds.
Key Responsibilities
  • Merchant Underwriting Execution: Conduct merchant credit and risk underwriting reviews for sponsored acquiring programs ; evaluate merchant business models, financial condition, and fraud exposure.
  • Transaction & Portfolio Monitoring: Administer ongoing merchant portfolio monitoring, including daily transaction activity surveillance, chargeback ratio analysis, and fraud trend review.
  • MCC & Policy Enforcement: Ensure proper Merchant Category Code (MCC) assignment across the portfolio and enforce prohibited and restricted merchant category policies.
  • Chargeback Surveillance: Monitor chargeback activity against Visa Dispute Monitoring Program (VDMP) and Mastercard Excessive Chargeback Program (ECP) thresholds; flag accounts nearing penalty thresholds for management review.
  • Escalation: Identify and escalate high-risk applications, exposure concentrations, or unusual volume patterns to the Senior Manager.

This position may be performed remotely or in a hybrid work arrangement, depending on business needs. Employees are expected to work Monday through Friday during regular business hours, with occasional evening or weekend work as needed.

Qualifications Summary
Education
  • Associate degree in Business or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in merchant acquiring risk, payments fraud, or bank operational risk.
  • Prior banking and compliance experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Working knowledge of merchant underwriting standards, transaction monitoring, and chargeback analysis.
  • Background in ecommerce risk management and understanding new verticals such as Nutraceuticals, AI, High Risk Industries (CBD, Gambling) etc
  • Familiarity with proper MCC assignment and high-risk merchant business models.
  • Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to identifying payment anomalies.
  • Ability to strictly follow established underwriting criteria and risk rating frameworks.
