Company Description

UCEDC is a private, nonprofit economic development corporation dedicated to fostering small business growth and job creation across New Jersey since 1977. Specializing in providing financing options, including SBA microloans and Community Advantage 7a loans, we support entrepreneurs who may face challenges accessing conventional funding. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and SBA lender, we focus on serving women, minority entrepreneurs, and those with limited credit or collateral. UCEDC also offers free and low-cost training programs, mentorship opportunities, and assistance with government procurement through our Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). Over the past decade, we have provided more than $20 million in loans, trained over 10,000 entrepreneurs, and helped clients secure $1.5 billion in government contracts.

Job Function

This position is responsible for execution and/or assistance of tasks related to management and maintenance of UCEDC’s loan portfolio of SBA 504, Microloans, etc.

Accountability

This position reports to the Portfolio Manager and works with the accounting and lending staff to implement and maintain various systems and reporting requirements. Ideal candidate should exhibit high level of attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to seeing things through.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance of complete and organized physical and electronic loan files. The Loan Portfolio Assistant will maintain a knowledge-base on the current rules and compliance regulations and requirements associated with the SBA loan programs.

Will conduct a variety of tasks that include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and ship SBA 504 loan closing/trailing packages to SBA
  • Execute communications (written correspondence/emails) for the timely collection of tax returns according to annual schedule (to be approved at Aging Meeting)
  • Manage monthly collection of renewals for expired insurances for existing borrowers (ongoing)
  • Track and prepare requests for renewals of UCCs (ongoing)
  • Monitor real estate tax payment verification of borrowers, including follow-up in cases of unpaid real estate taxes (ongoing)
  • Preparation (and follow-up) of 2-Year Anniversary Jobs tracking letters for 504 borrowers
  • Execute mailing of Annual Statements to 504 borrowers
  • Enter newly funded microloans and update paid off loans in Ventures (ongoing)
  • Assist with communication of prime rate changes for 7a CA borrowers
  • Assist with review of incoming servicing correspondence and necessary follow-up with borrowers
  • Assist with pulling of credit reports, etc.
  • Assist in resolving general loan servicing requests from borrowers
  • Assist with follow-up in cases of non-sufficient funds or other payment situations (for loan payments from 504, 7A CA and Microloan borrowers). Follow-ups include written correspondence, emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Assist with implementation of payment arrangements for qualified borrowers.
  • Assist with preparation for monthly Aging Meeting
  • Assist in preparation and execution of special-circumstance correspondence/communications

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for reviewing and assessing portfolio performance and loan data accuracy
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to correspond with borrowers, team members, and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a collaborative team environment
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite, with a focus on Excel and Word. Experience with Salesforce is considered a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proactive approach to handling responsibilities
  • Previous experience in lending, financial services, or economic development is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hybrid work environment requiring 2 in-office days (Cranford, NJ)
  • Salary range from $50,000 - $55,000 annually depending on experience
