What is a contract PMHNP?

A Contract PMHNP, or Contract Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, is a licensed nurse practitioner who specializes in mental health and works on a contract basis rather than as a permanent employee. These professionals assess, diagnose, and treat patients with psychiatric disorders, often prescribing medications and providing therapy. Contract roles can offer flexibility and variety, as PMHNPs may work in different healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, or via telehealth. This arrangement is popular among practitioners seeking autonomy, higher pay rates, or varied work environments.

What are some common challenges faced by contract PMHNPs when integrating into new clinical teams?

Contract Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) often encounter the challenge of quickly adapting to varying clinical protocols, electronic health record systems, and team dynamics in each new setting. Building rapport with multidisciplinary teams and establishing trust with patients in a short time frame can also be demanding. However, strong communication skills, flexibility, and prior experience in diverse clinical environments help contract PMHNPs navigate these transitions smoothly and deliver quality care effectively.

Brightside is dedicated to offering transformative mental health care to individuals regardless of their background, location, or circumstances. Our primary goal is to improve access to high-quality and impactful mental health care that is supported by scientific research and delivered with humanity. This is why we are revolutionizing the traditional approach by leveraging precision treatment that is rooted in evidence and tailored to each person's unique needs, ensuring that they receive the most effective treatment from the very beginning.
Apply to be a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Brightside Health, where we integrate a consumer-centric approach with evidence-based methodologies, cutting-edge artificial intelligence, and a dedicated team of providers and therapists to deliver customized treatment for each Brightside member. As we redefine mental healthcare for the telemedicine era, we're driven to establish ourselves as the leading provider of psychiatric care across the nation. Be part of our mission to transform the landscape of mental health treatment.
Our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Enjoy:
  • Flexible & Remote Telemedicine: Evidence-based approach to psychiatric care via telemedicine, including asynchronous case review, video consultation, and e-prescribing, lowers the barriers to accessing high-quality and affordable care.
  • Supportive and Collaborative Environment: To ensure the success of our patients and members, we have established dedicated teams for both member and provider support. Additionally, we facilitate collaboration between our providers and clinical leadership through 1:1 consultations, as well as encourage interaction among colleagues through internal communication forums.
  • Measurement-Based Care: Our technology measures symptoms, adherence, and side effects weekly through the active treatment phase and automatically triggers treatment reviews if patients are not improving. We are redefining the provider-patient relationship, supporting encounter-based care with remote and proactive oversight enabled by technology.
  • Machine Learning-Powered Clinical Decision Support: Contrary to conventional practice, data can help match patients to medications for better outcomes. Using machine learning and real-time data from patient monitoring, we are building a highly effective clinical decision support tool for prescribing.
