Job description

The Transport Engineer manages the life cycle for third-party circuits, colocation services and cross connect services and is responsible for cross-functional collaboration between account managers, carriers (Transport Services Providers) and data centers. The incumbent works in tandem with other transport and facilities engineers on customer deployments, and serves as lead project manager on regional nontraditional customer deployments.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manage third-party circuit life cycle and colocation services. From quoting for new opportunities, to ordering, to provisioning, to renewal and circuit disconnections.
  • Serve as main point of contact for 3rd party carriers to work through pricing, design, implementation, delivery and support related issues.
  • Manage and coordinate all requisite documents including, signed orders, contract, MSAs, site requirements and site contact information.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple departments to ensure accurate and thorough quotes and information for 3rd party clients.
  • Liaises with Network Engineering to provision and disconnect new circuits.
  • Identify available fiber vendors for quoting and alternatives for redundancy or circuit protection.
  • Use independent judgement and discretion to negotiate pricing and to order 3rd party circuits and/or colocation services and to negotiate renewals or circuit replacements when necessary and analyze and review agreements after seeking approvals.
  • Assess and recommend third party circuit options with considerations to pricing and redundancy.
  • Project manage one or more aspects of a customer deployment on multiple applications, and ensure projects are completed according to contract timelines and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Support all facets of an application from entry into systems to construction completion, including but not limited to: LIT Carrier Service, Dark Fiber, Internet Exchange Ports and IP Transit ports.
  • Keep consistent and constant communication to ensure relevant teams are aware of issues that will impact project completion or cost.
  • Participate in internal & external deployment meetings and interact with carrier representatives as needed.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Experience in telecommunication industry strongly preferred
  • At least two years working in a business environment with project management and
  • administrative experience
  • Exceptional aptitude with business correspondence, telephone skills, computer expertise
  • including research and data analysis
  • Knowledge and experience in telecommunications wireless project management, asset
  • management, fiber optics, and 3rd Party Carrier LIT services
  • Knowledge of construction services: telco, power, fiber, basic construction, vendor equipment requirements
