Job description

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Under the direction of the supervisor, the Finishing Operator sets up and operates various simple machine tools and hand power tools as assigned to deburr and/or finish machined gears, shafts and related parts to meet company quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Following established procedures, use various hand tools such as files, burring knifes, and brushes to remove burrs, excess metal, surface imperfections, and any other noted imperfections.
  • Read machining instructions or routing sheets and follow oral instructions to set up burring machines. Operating sequence and necessary tools are provided.
  • Operate burring lathe, sand blaster, parts washer, wire brush, burring machines and rounder as assigned; make standard adjustments as needed.
  • Engrave and stamp part numbers on gears, shafts and related parts.
  • Use micrometers and various precision measuring equipment to set up and check work. Examine and feel surface of work piece for defects.
  • Notify a supervisor or lead Person of any deviations in product quality from prior operations.
  • Process all necessary documentation and paperwork for parts completed.
  • Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
