Job description

Summary

The lab of Dr. Pawel Stankiewicz is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on an NIH-funded project focused on studying the molecular bases of lung development in humans.

Training will be provided in grant application preparation. At Baylor College of Medicine, postdoctoral associates will have access to daily lectures and seminars at Baylor, and can participate in domestic conferences, meetings, and the annual departmental retreat. Postdoctoral Associate will work with technologies/techniques such as next generation sequencing (whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Hi-C), array CGH, droplet digital PCR, and genome editing.

 
Postdoctoral Associate will study the genetic bases of lung development and pathogenesis of lethal lung developmental disorders. Research will use clinical specimens and human cell lines to identify novel genes and mechanisms of gene regulation playing an important role in lung development, as well as biomarkers that can be translated to the clinic.

Job Duties
  • Designs and conducts logical scientific experiments.
  • Performs data analysis.
  • Works with technologies/techniques such as next generation sequencing (whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Hi-C), array CGH, droplet digital PCR, and genome editing.
  • Shows competency in troubleshooting.
  • Presents results to the research group in weekly meetings.
  • Participates in domestic conferences, meetings, and the annual departmental retreat.
  • Summarizes research findings in scientific manuscripts to be published in research or clinical journals, prepare project reports, grant proposals, and abstracts.
  • Collaborates with the bioinformatics and functional genomics team in the lab.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Maintains laboratory operations.
  • Supervises research staff.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in human or molecular genetics.
  • Experience in genomic analyses techniques that includes next generation sequencing - DNA and transcriptome, chromosomal microarrays, cell culture, qPCR, gene regulation assays, 3D chromatin structure.
  • Prior experience in the area of developmental genetics.
