Job description

This is for a replacement APP to support physicians in clinic. The APP will be seeing pre-op and post-op patients and routine return visits. Additionally, they will work in tandem with physicians to maximize patient templates. They are responsible for placing orders, answering MyChart messages and phone calls from patients, and completing extensive paperwork such as FMLA and disability forms.

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.

This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.               

CLINICAL - 90% - Key liaison to Lakeland USF Neurosurgery staff working to provide optimal continuity of care through standardization of care plans and protocols. - Obtain the history and physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic test/procedures in coordination with Faculty supervising physician. - Regularly confers with faculty physicians regarding diagnosis, treatment, best form of therapy projected, and alerts physicians to abnormal findings.- Returns patient phone calls, renews prescriptions, coordinates rehabilitative therapy, and assesses post-procedure problems. - Provides outpatient clinic care including evaluation of new patients, established patients, and post op care. - Provides pre- and post- procedure education, assessment, and care of patients. - Documentation of all orders, procedures, and progress notes on the patient's electronic medical record. - Represents and supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Department. - Participates in clinical and education objectives required for licensure, certification, and credentialing. - Writes orders for changes in medication(s) and arranges plan details.

ADMINISTRATIVE - 10% - Completes medical paperwork such as FMLA, Worker's Compensation, etc. Communicates with patients via MyChart and phone conversations. Updates patients' records, noting changes in medication and responses to patients. Writing orders to increase, decrease, or changed medication, subject to checking and counter-signing by physician. Participates in in-service education programs and professional associations. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department.
