NDT Technician
Austin Industrial Location: Olin Chemical Facility, Plaquemine, LA Position Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
Austin Industrial is seeking a qualified Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician to support inspection and integrity management activities at the Olin facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana. The NDT Technician is responsible for performing non-destructive examinations of equipment, piping, structural components, and welded assemblies to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and operational integrity of plant assets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform non-destructive testing examinations using applicable methods, including:
    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
    • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
    • Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
    • Visual Testing (VT)
    • Radiographic Testing (RT) (if certified)
    • Eddy Current Testing (ET) (if applicable)
  • Inspect pressure vessels, piping systems, tanks, structural steel, and welded components.
  • Interpret and evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain detailed inspection records.
  • Identify, document, and communicate defects, discontinuities, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Work closely with plant personnel, engineers, inspectors, and maintenance teams to support inspection projects and turnaround activities.
  • Ensure adherence to ASME, API, AWS, and client-specific requirements.
  • Follow all Austin Industrial, Olin, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain inspection equipment, calibration records, and testing documentation.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance outages, turnarounds, and special projects as required.
  • Perform work in industrial environments that may involve elevated work, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current NDT certifications in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or employer-based certification program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial NDT experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inspection techniques and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Isometric drawings
    • Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Welding procedures
    • Inspection specifications
  • Proficiency in preparing inspection reports and documentation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred
  • Level II certifications in UT, MT, PT, and VT.
  • Experience working in chemical, petrochemical, refinery, or manufacturing facilities.
  • API Certifications (510, 570, or 653) preferred.
  • Radiation Safety certification for RT personnel.
  • Rope Access certification (SPRAT or IRATA) is a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work at heights.
  • Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, fall protection, and other specialized safety equipment.
