About the Opportunity
An organization is seeking an Underground Utility Engineer to support municipal and private development projects with a focus on underground electric distribution design and utility coordination. This role involves engineering oversight, design development, permitting, and collaboration with developers, contractors, and municipal stakeholders.
Job Duties
• Provide engineering oversight for underground utilities on residential and commercial development projects.
• Review developer submittals to ensure compliance with municipal standards and utility requirements.
• Perform underground electric distribution design, including conduit systems, transformers, switchgear, and service layouts.
• Prepare construction-ready drawings and permit packages for utility installations.
• Utilize GIS tools (ESRI ArcMap) for design development and mapping integration.
• Coordinate with city staff, developers, surveyors, and contractors to address design and constructability issues.
• Respond to review comments and revise designs to meet project and regulatory requirements.
• Support field activities by assisting with design clarifications and conflict resolution.
• Participate in meetings and maintain communication with stakeholders on project progress and technical details.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience in underground utility or electric distribution design.
• Proficiency with GIS tools (ESRI ArcMap) and utility design software.
• Knowledge of municipal standards, permitting processes, and construction practices.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, utility layouts, and development plans.
• Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with developers, contractors, and municipal agencies preferred.
