Job Title: Senior Machinist – Kings Bay Operations
Job Description
This position calls for an experienced Senior Machinist to support Kings Bay operations by setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines and lathes to produce high-quality components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will interpret technical documentation, ensure precision machining, and play a key role in training and leading other CNC machinists while upholding strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines and lathes, both manually and using advanced machining technology, to produce precision components.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate and precise machining of parts.
- Perform routine maintenance, basic programming, and troubleshooting of CNC machines and lathes as needed to minimize downtime.
- Monitor machining operations, verify dimensions using calipers and other measuring tools, and adjust setups to maintain a high standard of quality.
- Manage multiple work orders and tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and meeting production schedules.
- Track and document work orders accurately to ensure proper workflow and traceability.
- Train, mentor, and help lead new CNC machinists, sharing best practices and promoting safe and efficient work habits.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, operational procedures, and shop policies to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in the machine shop and other jobsites as required, supporting overall operational goals.
- Lift materials and components up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods while performing machining operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a machinist in a Senior-level role, preferably with 10 or more years of machining experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with CNC machine and lathe setup, operation, and basic programming.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Ability to perform manual machining operations when required.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Ability to track and manage work orders accurately and efficiently.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for hours at a time while operating machinery.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a high standard of quality.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support and train others.
- Consistent adherence to safety practices and operational procedures in a machine shop environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with a variety of lathes and CNC machining centers in a production environment.
- Familiarity with advanced machining technology and CNC programming concepts.
- Experience performing routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on CNC machines and lathes.
- Experience in high-specification or government-related manufacturing environments is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior machinists and support their skill development.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple jobs, prints, and work orders simultaneously.

Work Environment
You will work primarily in a machine shop environment located in the back shop and at associated jobsites, operating CNC machines and lathes and using precision tools such as calipers and other measuring equipment. The role follows a Monday through Friday day shift schedule from 06:00 to 14:30. You will spend much of the day on your feet, working around active machinery, lifting materials up to 50 pounds, and collaborating closely with other machinists while also working independently as needed. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on training, with a focus on producing high-quality components in a structured, production-oriented setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
