Job description

Drivers interact with riders and staff for Access Paratransit Services. The job duties include providing safe and courteous transportation service to ADA passengers and assisting passengers with or without mobility devices in boarding and exiting the vehicle.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport ADA passengers and assist passengers in boarding/exiting the vehicle, which includes passengers using mobility devices (i.e., wheelchairs, scooters, walkers).
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure proper operation of vehicle, including on-board equipment, and report any conditions which require repair and/or maintenance on the vehicle.
  • Safely perform scheduled routes dispatched to driver per on-time performance standards.
  • Follow safety procedures for loading, unloading, and securing all passengers.
  • Ensure safe and clean vehicle conditions at the start and end of each shift.
  • Safe operation of vehicles, including adherence to all California DMV laws.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Diffuse difficult situations during the work day.
  • Report delays, accidents, and other traffic issues using authorized communication device.
  • Accurately document all trips, odometer readings, beginning/end of shift, and lunch breaks.
  • Follow defensive driving techniques to minimize the risk of accidents and incidents.
  • Properly account for all fares collected.
  • Immediately report any accident or incident which occurs during the work day.
  • Comply with all attendance and uniform policies.
  • Safety First culture must be a priority.
  • Maintain good hygiene and a professional image at all times.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to customer service.
Essential Functions and Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, bend, squat for prolonged periods of time, stoop, twist, crouch, reach, kneel, and display physical dexterity and ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to push/pull passengers of all sizes using mobility devices (including wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, etc.) to board/exit the vehicle.
  • Possess full range or sense of hearing, speech, and vision.
  • Ability to understand and effectively and courteously communicate in English, both written and verbal, with riders and co-workers.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check in accordance with all applicable laws and contract requirements.
  • Must have a flexible schedule.
  • Minimum twenty0three (23) years of age.
  • Must have a valid CA driver's license Class A, B or C for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • Must satisfy contract requirements regarding DUI, reckless driving, felony, and misdemeanor convictions.
  • Possess a DMV record with not more than four (4) points in the past thirty-six (36) months; no single violation of two (2) points in the past thirty-six (36) months; and no more than two (2) points per year; no reckless driving violations; DWI/DUI or drug abuse convictions or license suspensions due to such convictions in the last seven (7) years.
  • Participation in SGT's Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
