To thrive as a Contract Java Developer, you need strong Java programming skills, experience with object-oriented design, and a solid understanding of software development lifecycles, typically supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with frameworks like Spring, build tools such as Maven or Gradle, and version control systems like Git is commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and clear communication skills help you efficiently integrate with new teams and projects. These abilities ensure you can quickly deliver high-quality, maintainable code that meets client requirements in a dynamic contract environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract Java Developers when integrating with existing teams and projects?

Their roles may include writing code, fixing bugs, integrating systems, and ensuring applications meet performance and security standards.

This role supports multiple software products and integrations, with heavy emphasis on ServiceNow, PowerShell, C#, and REST APIs. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, enhance platform usability, and ensure the stability and scalability of our systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Optimize, maintain, and expand ServiceNow to support current and future business needs.
  • Assess, troubleshoot, and correct issues stemming from the initial ServiceNow implementation.
  • Improve and streamline the user experience through documentation, clarity, and workflow optimization.
  • Design, build, and maintain automation solutions that reduce manual effort and connect enterprise systems.
  • Develop and support ServiceNow workflows, Service Portal components, Catalog Items, and integrations.
  • Configure, administer, and enhance ServiceNow modules including CMDB (classification & reconciliation), Software Asset Management, Change Management, and Incident Management.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and lightweight web applications for automation.
  • Build and consume REST APIs; perform testing and validation using tools such as Postman.
  • Support development of custom C# applications (Java acceptable but not preferred).
  • Conduct code reviews, manage version control using Git, and follow established SDLC processes.
  • Document system environments (particularly legacy systems with limited documentation).
  • Collaborate with SMEs and technical teams to gather requirements and identify opportunities for platform improvement.
  • Analyze and optimize existing automation workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Support ServiceNow releases, ticket workflows, queue management, and process improvements.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of ServiceNow experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • ServiceNow Service Portal
    • Catalog Items
    • CMDB (including classification & reconciliation rules)
    • Software Asset Management
    • Change and Incident Management
  • Strong experience in PowerShell scripting.
  • C# development experience required (Java acceptable, but not preferred).
  • Experience with REST API development and integration.
  • Experience with Git, Postman, and code review processes.
  • Strong technical documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and within collaborative teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Experience working in environments with legacy systems and limited documentation.
Preferred/Helpful Qualifications:
  • ServiceNow certifications.
  • Experience in the financial or insurance industry.
  • Understanding of business process improvement and software automation best practices.
  • Familiarity with UI design principles.
