About the Job

The HSE Advisor for our America Projects plays a crucial role in driving HSE excellence and fostering a safety-focused organizational culture.  Working with a strong HSE Team based on the project site as well as the project office in Houston, you will be a key focal point for HSE teams, Construction Managers, Project Managers, and externally for clients and subcontractors.  

In this role, you will help the project site HSE Manager, and project teams to manage the overall reduction of risk in complex projects within a matrix organization.  

Responsibilities 

  • Implement and maintain a strong compliance culture according to the TEN Global Standards, all applicable regulatory requirements, and industry best practices   
  • Help provide education, training and compliance support with HSE teams to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, Management, and other functions regarding HSE program execution  
  • Support the integration and execution of HSE requirements into planning documents, design criteria, construction and commissioning plans, schedules, and subcontract documents  
  • Conduct HSE assessments/inspections/site safety walks of project construction activities to monitor compliance with HSE requirements including contractual commitments, laws and regulations, and the project's HSE plan  
  • Fosters working relationships with key stakeholders to address challenges and drive the HSE culture  
  • Serves as member of the incident management team providing guidance to HSE management teams to reduce risk and company exposure  
  • Participate in investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence 
  • Participate in meetings with customers, team members, and contractors / subcontractors to advise them on HSE requirements and progress of Key Performance Indicators  
  • Complete internal process to maintain ISO certifications.  Support and participate in internal and external audits as needed for ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications 
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance HSE awareness and competencies 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and environmental practices to help elevate people engagement and a positive safety culture
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external partners to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends  
  • Stay informed about emerging HSE regulations, trends, and best practices, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance and improve HSE performance. 
  • Help prepare and present regular reports to senior HSE and Project management on HSE performance, initiatives, and areas for improvement. 
  • Collaborate with HSE Team to utilize third-party databases, e.g., ISN, Avetta, that house statistics, safe work practices, and documents related to clients/potential clients.   
  • Support HSE Team for managing the HSE Training Matrix, including help with annual review of project's HSE Plans, HSE programs and compliance to the Global HSE Policy related to training.  
  • Help develop, review and implement project documents, e.g., HSE Site Plans, ERPs, Site Manuals, Journey Management, etc., as needed. 
  • Contribute and oversee support to Tendering in completing HSE questionnaires and requested documents and statistics. Work with Subcontracts to prequalify potential subcontractors.  Review and approve subcontractor HSE programs prior to mobilization. 
  • Seek opportunities for Risk Reduction Projects to reduce risk in various project phases. 
  • Promote and participate in corporate Sustainability initiatives, e.g., training, volunteering, etc.

About You

We'd love to hear from you if your profile meets the following essential requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or a technical field or 10 years of equivalent industry experience in-lieu of a degree
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associated Safety Professional (ASP) or equivalent preferred, not required
  • Ability to influence within a matrixed organization 
  • Possess a strong understanding of construction safety and operational safety
  • Expertise in understanding and interpreting regulatory policies which include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), or Electrical Code (NEC) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and inspire across all levels of the organization including subcontractors 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment  
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Action oriented and self-directed; good organization and project management skills 
  • Proven experience in site auditing, assessment, and coaching 
  • Training and experience in incident investigation (Cause and Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, 5-Why's) 
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) 
  • Proficiency in HSE management software and Microsoft Office Suite 
  • ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 experience recommended 
  • Bilingual helpful, not required 

This role generally follows a Monday-Friday schedule; however, as a project-based position, it requires flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and overtime as needed to support construction execution, key milestones, and critical site activities.
