Data Security Engineer
About the Opportunity
AEBS is seeking a talented cybersecurity professional to help protect sensitive data across enterprise systems and platforms. The Data Security Engineer role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful security initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support a strong culture of safety, security, inclusion, and professional development.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with max pay of $155K when converted to FTE status. Health insurance, PTO, 401K match, etc. can be provided during the contract portion.

Job Responsibilities
  • Establish and implement appropriate standards and criteria for data security requirements.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and manage enterprise data security solutions, including data loss prevention, data encryption, cloud data protection, governance, and compliance.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of data discovery, classification, encryption, masking, tagging, and data governance.
  • Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify and mitigate potential data security threats, including third-party cyber risk.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deploy data protection measures and security best practices.
  • Provide expert guidance on data privacy management and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure data security KPIs are accurately tracked, measured, and reported.
  • Monitor and respond to data security incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Regularly review data security policies and standards, providing recommendations to address enhancements, regulatory changes, and evolving industry best practices.
  • Build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, information technology, computer information systems, management information systems, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • A combination of an associate degree, military or professional cybersecurity experience, and relevant cybersecurity certifications may be considered.
  • At least two years of cybersecurity experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in data engineering, database design, or database architecture.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • One or more relevant cybersecurity certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, OSCP, CCSP, GIAC, MCSE, GICSP, or CSSA.

Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Active Directory design and administration
  • Cloud platforms, including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell or .NET, including VB or C#
  • Security Operations Center experience
  • Data security and protection
  • Network access management
  • DNS and DHCP
