Contract Frontend Developer information

What are Contract Frontend Developers?

Contract Frontend Developers are professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to build and maintain the user-facing parts of websites and web applications. They specialize in technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and often work with frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Unlike full-time employees, contract frontend developers typically work for a set duration or until the completion of specific tasks. Their flexible arrangement allows companies to scale development efforts according to project needs.

What are some common challenges Contract Frontend Developers face when joining new projects, and how can they adapt quickly?

Contract Frontend Developers often need to ramp up rapidly with unfamiliar codebases and team workflows. Adapting quickly involves proactive communication with team members, thorough review of project documentation, and leveraging onboarding resources provided. Familiarity with popular frameworks and version control systems helps, but flexibility and a willingness to ask clarifying questions are key. Building rapport with the team and participating in code reviews can also accelerate the adaptation process.

Are front-end developers still in demand?

Front-end developers are currently in high demand due to the ongoing growth of web and mobile applications. Skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular are especially sought after, with many companies hiring contract and full-time developers to build user interfaces and improve user experience.

Will AI replace front-end dev?

AI tools can automate certain front-end development tasks such as code generation and testing, but they are unlikely to fully replace front-end developers. Front-end developers are needed to design user interfaces, implement complex interactions, and ensure accessibility and user experience, which require creativity and problem-solving skills that AI cannot fully replicate. Staying updated with frameworks like React or Vue and understanding UI/UX principles remain essential for front-end developers.

What is the difference between Contract Frontend Developer vs Contract Web Developer?

AspectContract Frontend DeveloperContract Web Developer
Required SkillsHTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React or AngularHTML, CSS, JavaScript, backend integration, server-side scripting
Work EnvironmentFront-end focused, UI/UX design, client-side developmentFull-stack or backend focus, server management, database interaction
Industry UsageWeb applications, mobile apps, SaaS platformsWebsites, web applications, e-commerce platforms

Contract Frontend Developers specialize in creating the visual and interactive parts of websites and applications, focusing on client-side technologies. Contract Web Developers may handle both front-end and back-end tasks, working on the entire web development stack. While both roles require similar credentials, the Contract Frontend Developer role is more focused on UI/UX and front-end frameworks, making it ideal for projects emphasizing user interface design and interactivity.

Can you work remotely as a front-end developer?

Yes, many front-end developer roles, including contract positions, are available for remote work. These jobs often require proficiency with collaboration tools like Git, Slack, and video conferencing, and may have specific time zone or communication requirements. Remote work flexibility depends on the employer and project needs.

How much do remote frontend developers make?

Remote frontend developers typically earn between $60,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and skill set. Senior developers with expertise in frameworks like React or Angular and strong portfolios tend to earn higher salaries, especially when working for established companies or on complex projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Frontend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a solid understanding of modern frontend frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular, often supported by a relevant degree or bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools (Webpack, npm), and responsive design practices is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you adapt quickly and collaborate effectively with remote teams or multiple clients. These skills ensure timely, high-quality project delivery and seamless integration into diverse development environments.

Job description

About Arteria AI

Arteria AI is the agentic backbone of financial services operations. We build AI-powered tools that help tier-one global institutions manage their most complex document workflows faster, smarter, and at scale.

We were founded by lawyers and financial services practitioners who have spent 20+ years solving documentation problems with the world's largest companies. Our team is mission-driven, high-calibre, and moves fast. Financial services is our domain, and documents are our obsession.

Arteria completed its Series B funding round led by Notable Capital (formerly GGV Capital) in October 2023. Other investors include Citi, Illuminate Financial, Information Venture Partners, and BDC Capital. Arteria has received recognition from Gartner ("Cool Vendor" in AI for Banking), CB Insights (Global Top 100 Most Promising FinTechs, 2024, and Global Top 100 Most Promising AI Startups, 2023), and Finovate (Finovate Awards Winner), among others.

Arteria is headquartered in Toronto, with operations in New York and London.

The Roleย

We are hiring a Senior Frontend Developer to help build and evolve the web experience at the heart of our platform. You will own significant frontend features end to end, and you will care as much about the problem being solved for the user as the code that solves it.ย

You will build in React and TypeScript, partnering closely with product and design to turn complex business problems into interfaces that feel simple. As one of our senior frontend engineers, you will also help modernize our frontend tooling andย practices, andย raise the bar for quality across the team.ย

You will set direction on frontend patterns and architecture while staying close to the code: shipping features alongside the team, reviewing pull requests, and collaborating with engineers across the stack. We are a small, focused company, and the decisions you make show up directly in the product.ย

Whatย You'llย Doย

  • Build, review, and test frontend features end to end in React and TypeScript, contributing directly to the product our customers use every day.ย
  • Partner closely with product and design to translate business problems into intuitive, polished user experiences.ย
  • Collaborate with our backend engineers to define clear API contracts and deliver features that work seamlessly across the stack.ย
  • Help modernize our frontend tooling, standards, and reusable components, raising the bar for quality across the team.ย
  • Build and evolve the sharedย componentย library that powers a consistent, accessible experience across the product.ย
  • Optimizeย the performance of data-dense interfaces, from large tables and lists to real-time views.ย
  • Drive technical discussions and contribute to frontend architecture decisions.ย
  • Work closely with Product toย validateย ideas and build prototypes when needed.ย
  • Use AI tools to accelerate yourย work, andย share effective practices with the team.ย

Whatย We'reย Looking Forย

  • You bring 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience building production web applications.ย
  • You have deepย expertiseย in React and TypeScript, onย a strong foundationย of core JavaScript.ย
  • You have a product mindset: you are motivated by solving real problems for users, not just shipping tickets.ย
  • You haveย a track recordย of owning features end to end and making sound architecturalย tradeoffs.ย
  • You have experience with modern state management, particularly handling server state and data fetching in complex applications.ย
  • You haveย optimizedย the performance of data-dense interfaces and know how to keep large, interactive UIs fast.ย
  • You have built or contributed to a sharedย componentย library or design system.ย
  • You have a solid grasp of web accessibility standards and care about building inclusive interfaces.ย
  • You collaborate closely and effectively across disciplines, particularly with design and backend engineering.ย
  • You have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.ย
  • You are eager to use AI tools to accelerate your own engineering work and inclined to share effective practices with the team.ย

Nice to Haveย

  • A willingness to take on some backend development, or to learn it as needed.ย
  • Experience modernizing or migrating a legacy frontend codebase.ย
  • A sensibility for the security, audit, and reliability expectations of regulated industries (finance or similar).ย

Why Join Usย

  • Own significant parts of the frontend experience of an enterprise SaaS platform used by top-tier financial institutions.
  • A senior role with real technical scope, where the decisions you make show up directly in the product.
  • Work with a collaborative, product-focused engineering culture at a small enough company that your decisions matter.

Compensation and Benefits

  • For this role, candidates located in Ontario can expect a base salary range of CAD $120,000-170,000. Placement within the range is determined by relevant experience, skills, and role level.
  • In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for an end-of-year performance bonus and a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental coverage.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental insurance coverage, hybrid working environment, flexible time-off.ย
