Job description

Job Title: FLEET MANAGER
Department: OPERATIONS
Reports To: VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS
Status: NON-EXEMPT
Location: ON-SITE/IN-PERSON
Position Summary
The Fleet Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the company's fleet and equipment. This position oversees maintenance operations, preventive service programs, fleet inventory, and shop performance while leading and developing a team of technicians. The Fleet Manager also supports budgeting, purchasing, and compliance efforts, and contributes hands-on when needed to keep vehicles and equipment running at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Maintenance
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and scheduled maintenance programs
  • Analyze fleet utilization and equipment performance to support operational efficiency and informed decision-making
  • Inspect completed repairs, including road testing, to ensure quality and readiness for service

Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate fleet employees, providing coaching and performance feedback
  • Develop and maintain technical training and certification programs to enhance team capabilities

Financial & Administrative Oversight
  • Assist in developing and managing the fleet services budget, including reviewing prior-year performance
  • Oversee purchasing activities and maintain accurate tracking of fleet-related expenditures
  • Maintain inventory systems for vehicles, equipment, fuel, parts, and supplies

Technical & Hands-On Support
  • Perform mechanical work as needed, including diagnostics, repairs, welding, electrical work, and component replacement
  • Review and verify repair documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs

Requirements
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED with six (6)+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid CDL Class A license
  • Pennsylvania Emission Inspector certification (or ability to obtain and maintain)
  • Pennsylvania Safety Inspector certification (or ability to obtain and maintain)

Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics, vehicle systems, and repair procedures
  • Experience with fleet management systems and maintenance tracking
  • Ability to operate CDL Class A, B, and C vehicles, as well as forklifts and material handling equipment
  • Ability to respond to road service calls as needed
  • Knowledge of hydraulic lift gate systems (preferred)

  • This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the ability to perform duties safely without impairment

  • This role is performed primarily outdoors and in shop environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and equipment
  • Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, and use of tools, as well as lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and higher weights occasionally
