Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Title of Supervisor: Company Officer (Executive Level)
Supervisory Responsibilities: Employees supporting projects under your purview as part of a project team and engineers of lower grades.
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 Annual
 
Job Summary:
Provides planning, design, engineering, supervision, and leadership for the project team by performing duties and tasks related to the engineering and design activities of the project team including engineering calculations, concept development, design layout and documentation while committing and accepting ownership for meeting project schedules and deadlines.  Provides mechanical engineering expertise for the adaptation and modification of standard designs, procedures and criteria and providing engineering expertise to other individuals and teams within the firm as required.  Applies mechanical engineering skills and expertise to complete multiple design projects from concept to completion.  Provides supervision to and assistance in developing the capabilities of engineers of lower grades.  Demonstrates ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
Project Related Responsibilities:
  • As a Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer, signs drawings on behalf of the company while taking full responsibility to protect company from unnecessary risk.
  • Coordinates the planning, programming, and management of the team to ensure project activities are executed in accordance with established contract requirements, company standards, budgets and schedules to achieve project completion on time and within budget.
  • Creates and executes project plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Responsible for managing project teams.
  • Identifies resources required and assigns individual responsibilities.
  • Maintains a clear understanding of what has been completed, keeps track of what is going on at present, plans ahead for steps to come, while keeping track of final outcome.
  • Manages the workflow to ensure consistent progress, allocate and distribute tasks as evenly as possible, make sure right person is doing right job, keep eye on timeline.
  •  Prepares forecasts of workload for project team.
  • Clarifies the scope of the project, setting milestones, and defining the timeline. Clarifies the nature, detail, and components of the final product.
  • Reviews deliverables prepared by team.
  • Effectively applies company methodology and enforces project standards.
  • Minimizes company exposure and risk on a project.
  • Establishes and manages the project documentation system. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and filed appropriately.
  • Commits to project schedules and deadlines in accordance with the Company philosophy.
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws appropriate conclusions.
  • Performs advanced engineering calculations of extreme difficulty without supervision.
  • Exercises independent judgment on engineering problems, methods and equipment selections.
  • Plans, prepares, designs, and lays out mechanical systems, including, but not limited to drawings, schematics, diagrams, in accordance with Company design standards.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of engineering reports. Plans and executes data gathering for report preparation. Coordinates resources and activities of in-house staff.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of specifications and probable cost of construction for projects. Coordinates resources and activities of in-house staff.
  • Visits construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documentation. Serves as the on-site project representative.

Project Accounting and Communication Responsibilities:
  • Develops engineering agreements, fee proposals, and owner/contractor construction contracts and handles routine contract administration.
  • Maintains awareness of project budget. 
  • Accomplishes project goals by accepting ownership for design tasks, schedules and performance.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
  • Coordinates team to work together in the most efficient manner.
  • Develops positive working relationships with the Owner/client, professional consultants, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Manages day-to-day client interaction. Serves as primary client contact and regularly attends project meetings with clients and other project consultants.
  • Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members and entire company.
  • Maintains clear and effective communication with the team to keep everyone informed.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues to appropriate personnel in a timely fashion.
  • Understands how to communicate difficult and sensitive information tactfully.
  • Effectively communicates relevant and significant information to superiors.

Organizational Responsibilities:
  • Mentors those with less experience.
  • Trains others through both formal and informal means consistent with the Company training program.
  • Updates and expands knowledge by participation in educational opportunities including reading technical publications and attending seminars.
  • Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible programs or procedures for implementation of improvements.
  • Complies with and helps to enforce standard policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:
  • Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of relevant mechanical experience preferred.  
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • 6+ years AutoCAD experience is preferred.  
  • 3+ years Revit experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory or project management experience is preferred.
  • Excellent technical and conceptual skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accomplishing project goals.
  • Able to multi-task, set priorities and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of CMMC is preferred.
  • Able to obtain and maintain security clearance required to work on federal projects.

Physical Demands:  
The incumbent must be able to keep up with the normal office functions within the scope of the position. Occasional lifting and transporting of office/field supplies and equipment is required. 


Position Type/Working Conditions
This is a full-time position.  Hours of work are Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30 pm.  Nights and weekends may be required. Working conditions involve an indoor office setting and occasional field work. Travel in the local area and possible out-of-area and overnight travel is required.
