What is a contract designer?

Contract Designers are professionals who provide design services to clients on a temporary or project-by-project basis, rather than as full-time employees. They may work in various fields such as graphic design, interior design, or industrial design and are typically hired to complete specific assignments within a set timeframe. Contract Designers often work independently or through agencies, allowing companies flexibility and specialized expertise without a long-term commitment.

How does a contract designer typically collaborate with clients and internal teams during a project?

As a Contract Designer, you will frequently work closely with both clients and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements, present concepts, and refine designs based on feedback. Communication is key, as you'll often participate in meetings, share progress updates, and coordinate with project managers, engineers, or marketers to ensure deliverables align with client expectations and brand guidelines. Effective collaboration helps ensure that projects are completed on time and that the final designs meet both aesthetic and functional needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract designer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Contract Designer, you need expertise in contract law, drafting, and negotiation, usually supported by a degree in law, business, or a related field. Familiarity with contract management software (such as DocuSign, ContractWorks, or Adobe Sign) and relevant certifications like Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) are highly valuable. Attention to detail, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities help ensure clarity and compliance in contract terms. These skills are crucial for mitigating risks, protecting organizational interests, and fostering successful business partnerships.

What is the difference between Contract Designer vs Graphic Designer?

  • AI Fluency & Enablement: Play a critical role in building AI capability across the business - partnering with our Sr. Manager, Learning to design and deliver enablement programs that grow AI fluency at every level of the organization. Integrate AI fluency into performance management at a global scale, and continuously rethink how the TD&L team itself works in an AI-first way.

  • Measurement & Impact: Measure and report on program KPIs, including behavioral change and effectiveness. Translate talent data into actionable insights for senior leadership.

  • Strategy & Planning: Drive execution on the TD&L strategy through the development of the team's goals, KPIs, and quarterly/annual roadmaps.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner as a leader in the broader People team, ensuring efforts are coordinated across all People functions and we are delivering a seamless employee experience.

  • Learning Infrastructure: Oversee our learning infrastructure, including our LMS, content strategy, vendor relationships, and AI-enabled tools.

  • DIBE Integration: Systematically integrate Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Equity (DIBE) principles into all talent processes, ensuring equitable access and decision-making.

  • Budget & Reporting: Own the reporting and narrative for the success, budget utilization, and business impact of all global TD&L initiatives.

What you bring:
  • Scale: 10+ years of progressive HR or Talent Development experience, including leading talent programs and teams in hypergrowth tech organizations of 2,000+ employees.

  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience managing and developing high-performing teams, with a track record of building bench strength and fostering professional growth.

  • Talent Management Expertise: Deep knowledge of talent management practices including performance management, succession planning, 360 feedback, and career development program design.

  • Leadership Development: Proven experience designing and delivering leadership development programs and learning solutions across all levels of leadership.

  • Learning Design & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience leading or working alongside learning experience designers and a point of view on what good looks like - from how a shared services learning function operates to the tools that power it (LMS, course authoring tools, content libraries, and emerging AI-enabled solutions).

  • AI Fluency & Forward Thinking: You are genuinely energized by AI and bring real, hands-on fluency. You actively use AI tools to rethink how you and your team work, and you're comfortable operating at the pace of change AI demands.

  • Strategic Execution: Ability to operate at both a strategic and executional level - you set the vision and roll up your sleeves to get it done.

  • Stakeholder Influence: Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and drive alignment across People CoEs, People Business Partners, business leaders, and senior stakeholders.

  • Data Storytelling: Ability to translate talent data and program metrics into compelling narratives that drive leadership decisions.

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience building AI capability across a workforce through enablement programs and integrating AI into performance evaluations and talent management practices.

  • Experience with Workday HRIS or similar enterprise HR systems.
