Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

Travel: Occasional travel to vendor sites, training sessions, conferences, or project locations as required

Overview

Our client, a global leader in the transportation and rail technology industry, is seeking a Hardware Application Design - Intermediate Designer to support the Site Infrastructure Design (SID) Hardware team.

This role focuses on supporting hardware application design drafting, technical documentation, and infrastructure-related engineering activities for complex transportation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical systems, CAD design tools, and hardware documentation processes, along with the ability to collaborate effectively within a technical engineering environment.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and modification of hardware application designs and technical documentation
  • Interpret and document system requirements while selecting appropriate design approaches for hardware applications
  • Prepare and maintain hardware CAD drawings for primarily electrical and some mechanical designs
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and quality of all design documentation and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Contribute to resolving hardware-related issues both internally and at project sites
  • Support installation activities and field testing to ensure successful technical implementation
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives related to hardware applications and design workflows
  • Maximize re-use of existing product designs and contribute to development strategies for standardization
  • Conduct research and review source documentation to support design activities and technical decisions
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams while maintaining professionalism and accountability
  • Clearly articulate technical questions and design concerns for review by leadership and engineering teams
  • Maintain strong working relationships with team members, stakeholders, vendors, and customers
  • Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication in both written and verbal interactions
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary Technologist Diploma OR Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in hardware application design or electrical drafting
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Electrical theory and systems
    • Hardware application design
    • CAD drafting principles
  • Proficiency with:
    • MicroStation
    • AutoCAD
    • SAP (Bills of Materials)
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Configuration Management tools
    • ClearQuest or change control systems
  • Strong problem-solving and logical reasoning skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
