Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the organization's enterprise data architecture, data pipelines, data integration solutions, and analytical data platforms. This role serves as a technical leader in transforming raw data into trusted, accessible, and actionable information that supports business operations, reporting, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and strategic decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data pipelines and integration processes.
  • Build scalable data solutions supporting reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives.
  • Design and implement data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse architectures.
  • Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes.
  • Implement data quality controls, metadata management, and governance standards.
  • Support cloud-based and hybrid data platforms.
  • Collaborate with analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering best practices.

Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, business, and/or similar related field. (required)

Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance. (required)
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or related disciplines.
  • Advanced SQL and data modeling skills.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms and modern data engineering tools.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and quality management. 

Please note that marijuana remains a Schedule III controlled substance under Federal Law. Federal contractors must follow Federal drug-free workplace rules, which prohibit marijuana use, even if medical or recreational use is permitted under State Law. 

Preferred Qualifications and Location Details

  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Denodo, Snowflake, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting AI and machine learning initiatives.
  • Relevant cloud or data engineering certifications.
  • Experience leading modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with federal reporting.
  • Onsite position - Oak Ridge, TN at UCOR office
