What are some common challenges faced by contract Databricks Data Engineers when integrating data from multiple sources?

As a contract Databricks Data Engineer, you'll often encounter challenges related to integrating diverse data sources, such as on-premises databases, cloud storage, and APIs. These challenges may include handling inconsistent data formats, managing data quality, and ensuring secure data transfers. Additionally, adapting to clients' unique data architectures and optimizing ETL pipelines for performance in a cloud environment are common tasks. Collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and other engineers is critical to ensure data is both accessible and reliable for downstream analytics and machine learning.

What are Contract Databricks Data Engineers?

Contract Databricks Data Engineers are professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to design, build, and maintain data infrastructure using Databricks, a unified analytics platform. They typically work with big data tools, cloud environments, and programming languages like Python or Scala to process and analyze large datasets. Their responsibilities often include developing data pipelines, optimizing data workflows, and collaborating with data scientists and analysts to support business objectives. Because they are contractors, their roles can vary by project and organization, offering flexibility and specialized expertise.

Job Description

About FIS

Are you curious, motivated, and forward-thinking? At FIS you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and relevant issues in financial services and technology. Our talented people empower us, and we believe in being part of a team that is open, collaborative, entrepreneurial, passionate and above all fun.

About the team

The Enterprise Data & AI (EDAI) team drives the modernization and intelligence of FIS's global data ecosystem, enabling the company to securely ingest, process, govern, and activate data at scale.

The team builds and operates the platforms that power advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven insights, partnering closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, reliable, and compliant data solutions.

With a focus on automation, standardization, and platform excellence, EDAI ensures that FIS teams across the enterprise can access trusted data and leverage cutting-edge AI capabilities to accelerate innovation and achieve measurable business outcomes.

What you will be doing

This role sits within Enterprise Data and will lead Site Reliability Engineering for three distinct platforms that power data across FIS: the Corporate Data Lake (CDL), the Cloud Data Platform (CDP), and the Enterprise Data & AI Platform (EDAI). You will own platform reliability across ingestion, processing, warehousing, governance, access, and business consumption - with a strong focus on automation, compliance, and operational excellence.

  • Own endtoend platform reliability for CDL (Azure), CDP (AWS + Astronomer + Snowflake), and EDAI (Azure + Fivetran + Databricks + Snowflake).

  • CrossPlatform (All Three)

  • Lead 24x7 incident response, postincident reviews, and continuous improvement; maintain oncall structures and runbooks.

  • Define and manage SLAs/SLOs, error budgets, and operational standards for ingestion, processing, warehousing, and consumption layers.

  • Implement automation for deployments, monitoring, scaling, recovery, and change management.

  • Establish unified observability (logs, metrics, traces, lineage) and dashboarding for platform health and capacity.

What you bring

  • Enterprise Cloud Data Platform Expertise.

  • Proven experience operating multiplatform enterprise data environments across Azure and AWS.

  • Handson with Snowflake operations (warehouses, scaling, performance tuning, access, cost management).

  • Deep understanding of ingestion, transformation, warehousing, governance, lineage, and consumption patterns.

  • Platform Technologies.

  • Azure services (e.g., AKS, Storage, Key Vault, Monitor) and enterprise identity (Azure AD).

  • AWS services (e.g. identity, networking, monitoring, secrets, batch, lambda) - plus Astronomer (Apache Airflow) administration.

  • Fivetran (enterprise ingestion), Databricks (processing & orchestration), Snowflake (warehousing & distribution).

  • Metadata, lineage, and governance tools and processes; SDC (Secure Data Core) concepts, tokenization/masking, and access workflows.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience unifying legacy lakes/warehouses into standardized cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS).

  • Experience using Datahub by Acryl for governance.

  • Background running Astronomer at scale for production pipelines and integrating with enterprise controls.

What we offer you

  • A pivotal leadership role shaping reliability across FIS's core data platforms (CDL, CDP, EDAI).

  • A modern, global engineering environment using industryleading cloud data technologies.

  • Competitive salary, benefits, and extensive professional development opportunities.
