Senior Software Engineer, Data Engineering (ETL Modernization)
We are not accepting C2C or 1099 arrangements.
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite: Monday-Wednesday)
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Offer Management Engineering team responsible for supporting and modernizing a large-scale platform that manages marketing offers and campaign data across multiple products.
In this role, you will help drive a strategic modernization initiative focused on migrating enterprise ETL workloads from Ab Initio to PySpark and Python. You will balance hands-on software engineering and production support responsibilities while partnering with stakeholders to improve scalability, reliability, and performance across critical data processing systems.
The ideal candidate is a strong ETL engineer with deep technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and the ability to independently own complex deliverables from analysis through implementation.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise-scale ETL applications and data pipelines.
  • Maintain and optimize existing Ab Initio-based ETL workflows and batch processing systems.
  • Contribute to the migration of ETL workloads from Ab Initio to PySpark and Python.
  • Analyze existing architectures and perform proof-of-concepts (POCs) to validate modernization strategies.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Support application deployments and post-deployment stabilization activities.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs and data processing workflows to ensure operational reliability.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and maintainability through engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product stakeholders, and business partners in an Agile environment.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, design discussions, and code reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in ETL development and enterprise data integration.
  • Hands-on experience with Ab Initio development and support.
  • Strong programming experience with Python.
  • Experience building and supporting PySpark data processing solutions.
  • Experience working with Oracle Database and SQL.
  • Experience supporting production applications, including incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and drive work to completion with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating ETL solutions from legacy platforms to modern data engineering frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), Azure, or OpenShift.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or similar coding assistants.
  • Experience optimizing large-scale data processing and performance-intensive ETL applications.
Key Skills
  • ETL Development
  • Ab Initio
  • PySpark
  • Python
  • Oracle Database
  • SQL
  • Data Engineering
  • Production Support
  • ETL Migration & Modernization
  • Agile Development
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a highly motivated engineer who demonstrates:
Ownership
  • Takes responsibility for deliverables from concept through implementation.
  • Provides accurate estimates and reliably meets commitments.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves challenges before they become blockers.
Technical Excellence
  • Strong ETL and data engineering expertise.
  • Ability to evaluate, improve, and modernize legacy solutions.
  • Focus on scalable, maintainable, and high-quality software design.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Clearly communicates technical decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Works effectively with engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participates actively in team discussions and Agile ceremonies.
Proactive Problem Solving
  • Investigates issues independently.
  • Escalates risks appropriately.
  • Seeks clarification when requirements are ambiguous and drives solutions forward.
Additional Information
  • Current workload consists of approximately 50% production support and 50% engineering/development activities.
  • The role is expected to become increasingly focused on engineering and modernization initiatives as the ETL migration program progresses.
  • No formal on-call rotation is required; however, participation in deployment support and post-release stabilization activities is expected.
  • Industry experience in financial services or marketing platforms is not required.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility modernization initiative while working on large-scale data processing systems and helping shape the future state architecture of a critical enterprise platform.
