Does it excite you to create innovative solutions to complex technical problems and shape the future of aviation operations technology?

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in advanced technologically and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry.

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Ascentia program, you will lead the development of cutting-edge, integrated solutions that help users turn aircraft and operational data into predictive insights, actionable recommendations, and improved fleet reliability. Ascentia is a unified aircraft reliability management platform that brings together prognostic health monitoring, monitoring dashboards, alerts, and maintenance-focused workflows within a connected ecosystem.

In this role, you’ll leverage your technical expertise to design and implement scalable software solutions, ensuring alignment with Ascentia’s mission to improve aircraft reliability, enhance situational awareness, and reduce unscheduled maintenance and operational disruptions. You will work closely with team members based in the U.S. and India as part of cross-functional agile teams—including product management, UX/UI design, infrastructure, and QA—to ensure high-quality, compliant, and high-performance software solutions. In addition to contributing to the technical roadmap, you will mentor junior engineers and play a pivotal role in advancing agile methodologies, driving faster and more efficient development cycles across the global team.

The Ascentia Engineering Team is dedicated to delivering high-impact software solutions that help airlines improve aircraft reliability, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce maintenance-driven disruptions. With a deep understanding of aviation’s unique demands, the team builds innovative tools that turn aircraft and maintenance data into predictive, actionable intelligence for smarter decision-making. The Ascentia platform brings together capabilities for prognostic health management, fleet monitoring, analytics, and maintenance recommendations within a secure, cohesive interface that integrates with airline and maintenance systems. Engineers on the team work closely with stakeholders across the Ascentia ecosystem to enhance product offerings, improve data connectivity, and advance features that provide critical insights for maintenance, reliability, and operations teams. This agile, collaborative team values continuous improvement and is committed to the highest standards of software engineering, security, and aviation compliance.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and build scalable software services, APIs, and user-facing features that power Ascentia’s reliability management workflows, dashboards, alerts, and maintenance-focused capabilities.
  • Develop cloud-native applications that deliver a seamless, secure user experience for airlines accessing aircraft health data, prognostic insights, and actionable maintenance recommendations within the Ascentia platform.
  • Collaborate with global, cross-functional agile teams (product, UX/UI, data science, infrastructure, QA) across the U.S. and India to deliver high-quality, compliant, and high-performance software.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code following best practices in software engineering, security, and aviation compliance to support some of the largest airlines and operators in the world.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate the software development lifecycle while supporting standardized processes, requirements‑based coding, and consistent engineering traceability.
  • Contribute to Ascentia’s technical roadmap, mentor junior engineers, and advance agile/DevOps practices to accelerate development cycles and continuous improvement across the program.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 5 years of professional software development experience; or a related advanced degree and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing and shipping production software applications using at least one modern programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, Python, Go).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing, implementing, and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including deploying and monitoring services.
  • Demonstrated experience applying software engineering best practices, including use of automated testing frameworks, code review tools, version control (e.g., Git), and secure coding standards.
  • Documented experience resolving production issues, performing root-cause analysis, and delivering maintainable fixes within agreed timelines.
  • At least 2 years experience working on agile, cross‑functional teams with team members located in multiple time zones.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience building full-stack web applications (front-end and backend).
  • Experience using at least one modern front-end framework (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) and one service‑oriented backend framework.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms, including use of distributed systems and scalable design patterns.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing tools, and DevOps workflows.
  • Evidence of strong communication and collaboration, such as leading technical discussions, participating in architectural reviews, or contributing to multi‑team initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to team knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Practical experience working in iterative development environments with defined sprint or release cycles.
  • Demonstrated interest in aviation or experience supporting software used in aviation, aerospace, or industrial operations.
