Description
The role of the Content & Media Specialist is part of the Marketing Department. This position is a skilled writer and communications professional responsible for producing written and visual content for Simpson University. Duties include writing blog posts, press releases, speeches for university leadership, website copy, and other institutional communications, as well as contributing to the quarterly Life Together publication. This role develops and maintains university messaging, builds relationships with local media to secure interviews and coverage, and creates content for student enrollment communication flows. This role also supports the department's creative production needs, including graphic design, photography, and short-form video for social media. This role works closely with the Senior Marketing Specialist and the Admissions team.
To find the absolute best fit, we are structuring this opening to accommodate either a full-time or a part-time professional. The final determination of hours and scope will be contingent upon the qualifications, experience, and preference of the selected candidate.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required (Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred).
• 1-2 years of experience in communications, marketing, content writing, or a related role. Higher education experience preferred.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills across multiple formats (blog, press release, web copy, email, publication, speechwriting).
• Experience with media relations and securing local media coverage.
• Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or CRM-integrated tools).
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent design tools.
• Photography and video production skills preferred.
• Organized, detail-oriented, precise, focused, and accurate.
• Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time.
• Must work well independently and with others.

Essential Functions:
• Write blog posts for the university website, including student and alumni stories, program highlights, and campus news.
• Write and distribute press releases on behalf of the university.
• Contribute to the quarterly Life Together publication recapping the previous quarter for the Simpson University community.
• Write speeches, talking points, and remarks for university leadership, including the President.
• Develop and maintain university messaging and institutional communications.
• Build and manage relationships with local media to secure interviews and coverage for the university.
• Develop written content for marketing campaigns, website pages, and institutional communications.
• Coordinate email and SMS marketing campaigns and institutional announcements.
• Develop content and creative assets for student communication flows across the full enrollment funnel (inquiry, applicant, admitted, and enrolled stages), working in partnership with the Admissions team.
• Create graphic design for marketing materials, social media, and advertising.
• Capture photography of campus life, events, and athletics for use across marketing channels, the website, and institutional communications.
• Produce short-form video content for social media, including campus clips, event highlights, and student testimonials.
