Job description

Chief Accounting Officer

Christian Wyatt Group has been exclusively engaged on a newly created Chief Accounting Officer role for a growing Community Bank in the Southeast.  If you are a Banking Accounting & Finance Professional and have 12+ years of experience in a combination of public accounting, a publicly traded Small Regional Bank or Super Community Bank setting showing upward mobility to Controller or Chief Accounting Officer, we’d like to talk to you.   Current banking expertise is a must!

Our Client – has been one of the most highly successful financial services organizations in the banking sector over the past several years in the Southeast.  Their growth trajectory is strong and based on organic and M&A growth, this strategic/tactical Chief Accounting role is critical to their continued success.  This client likes to hire ‘tough’ but provides the support, autonomy, and toolkit to be successful for that right individual that melds well with their culture.  Smart folks, with a great work ethic, and a large dose of humility is how we could best describe their approach to banking.

The Opportunity – the right Chief Accounting Officer candidate will have the responsibility of supervising accounting from a bank holding company perspective.  Based on multiple lines of business and the interesting culture in banking these days, that is no small task.  You will be tasked with all things accounting and ‘keeping all the trains running on time’ throughout their entire footprint.  Supervising a Director of Financial Reporting, Financial Controller, and Director of Accounting Policy/SOX will provide your day-to-day directs.  From a personal overarching expertise perspective, Strategy, Reporting, Controls, Policy, SOX, as well as mentoring and leadership will be key attributes to success in this role.

What We Are Looking For In A Candidate – We are looking for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), at least 6 to 8 Years Public Accounting Experience (in the Financial Services Arena), and a Minimum of 6 to 8 Additional Years of Financial Services industry specific experience (specifically banking.)  Strong knowledge of US GAAP, Accounting Policy (research and apply), SEC Reporting, SOX, Tax, Mergers & Acquisitions is a must have.   This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, strong presentation skills, ability to build consensus, make difficult decisions, strong track record of ‘staying power’ and a strong attention to detail.   You must have the chops to stand tall when the heat is on.  Being a current Controller/Chief Accounting Officer (or very recently having been a Controller or CAO) in a Publicly Traded Bank is a must have in this position.  Experience building high performing teams, developing infrastructure, with an eye towards future growth is key in this role.

Rewards – The rewards in this position are tremendous.  Working for a very talented CFO, who is a great coach and mentor, you as the Chief Accounting Officer will personally have an impact on the future success of this soon to be $10B+ dollar organization.  If you are looking for a rare opportunity in banking these days, with a base salary that is above market, a solid bonus program, and equity components (TBD) to build long term wealth, this could be that once in a decade type of opportunity.  Inquire in confidence today.
