What is a contract attorney?

A contract attorney conducts research, prepares legal documents, and represents clients in a court of law. Contract attorneys are not permanent employees of law firms; they handle cases on behalf of law firms on a case-by-case basis. Much like standard attorneys, contract attorneys may specialize in a specific legal area, such as corporate law, family law, or criminal law. Law firms expect contract attorneys to uphold the same legal standards as traditional attorneys.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract attorney?

To thrive as a Contract Attorney, you need a solid understanding of contract law, strong legal research abilities, and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree with bar admission. Proficiency with legal research databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis, and familiarity with document management systems, are typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, negotiation skills, and clear written and verbal communication distinguish top performers in this field. These skills are crucial for drafting, reviewing, and interpreting complex contracts while protecting clients' interests and minimizing legal risks.

What are the typical challenges a contract attorney faces when managing multiple clients or cases simultaneously?

Contract Attorneys often juggle several assignments from various clients or law firms, which can present challenges in time management, prioritization, and maintaining clear communication. Developing strong project management skills and using legal technology tools can help Contract Attorneys efficiently track tasks, ensure confidentiality, and meet deliverables across diverse projects.

Location: Remote within Louisiana (New Orleans office available for hybrid or in-office work) Bar Admission: Texas (Required) | Louisiana (Preferred)

Kelley Kronenberg is expanding its litigation practice and seeking a Litigation Attorney to handle a blended docket of First-Party Property and General Liability defense matters in Texas jurisdictions. This position offers true flexibility — work from anywhere in Louisiana, with the option to plug into our New Orleans office as much or as little as suits your practice style.

If you're a Texas-barred attorney looking for meaningful casework, real autonomy, and a firm that invests in your growth, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities
  • Own Your Docket: Take full ownership of First-Party Property and General Liability defense files from intake through resolution, whether by trial, mediation, or settlement.
  • Build the Strategy: Develop case theories, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery, and deliver the legal research that drives client decision-making.
  • Stand Up in the Room: Take and defend depositions, appear at hearings and mediations, and prepare witnesses and experts for trial.
  • Be the Trusted Advisor: Keep clients informed with timely, practical assessments of liability, exposure, and case direction.
  • Close the File: Drive negotiations and alternative dispute resolution to secure strong outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active Texas Bar license in good standing (required). Louisiana admission is a strong plus.
  • At least 3 years of civil litigation experience; hands-on work in First-Party Property and/or General Liability defense strongly preferred.
  • Sharp legal research, analysis, and writing abilities.
  • The discipline and organization to manage a busy caseload independently in a remote setting.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation: Competitive base salary, an attainable annual bonus program, and 401(k) with employer match.
  • Health & Wellness: Company-paid PPO health coverage (100% paid option available), plus dental and vision plans.
  • Time to Recharge: Generous PTO, floating holidays, and dedicated mental health days.
  • Growth & Community: Ongoing professional development, mentorship, and a collaborative culture with monthly celebrations and firm events.
  • New Orleans Office Perks: For those who come in — daily coffee and beverages, 3:00 PM snacks, and Friday breakfasts.
