The Contract Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated professional who can efficiently translate project concepts, field information, and design direction into professional drawing sets, from concept through permit sets.

Depending upon the project and your capabilities, assignments may range from developing presentation drawings and 3D models to producing detailed construction documents suitable for permitting, estimating, trade coordination, and construction.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to an experienced professional who operates an independent drafting, architectural, or design practice and is interested in establishing an ongoing relationship for project-based and overflow work.

Project Types & Expectations

  • Collaborating with our team to translate project goals, measurements, existing conditions, and design requirements into well-developed drawings.
  • Project sites are owner-occupied, single-family homes that are typically 75 to 100+ years old and include whole house renovations, additions, kitchens, bathrooms, interior renovations, other residential living spaces, including Aging in Place (AIP) retrofits.
  • Developing existing conditions drawings from supplied field measurements, and photos.
  • Turning design concepts into presentation-ready drawings for up to 20 residential projects per year, but with multiple iterations and sufficiently high levels of detail.
  • Creating and refining 2D plans, elevations, and 3D models/renderings.
  • Producing accurate and comprehensive construction drawings and documentation.
  • Supporting projects involving historic homes and properties located within National Historic Districts, where sensitivity to existing architectural character and detailing is important.
  • Preparing drawings in a format that can effectively integrate and coordinate with our Chief Architect workflow.
  • Providing drawing information appropriate for estimating, permitting, production, and trade coordination.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, with significant residential remodeling design and drafting.
  •  Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Drafting, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong drawing expertise using Chief Architect, CAD, or CAD-based design software.
  • Chief Architect proficiency is strongly preferred. Candidates using other platforms should be able to demonstrate an effective workflow for coordinating or integrating their work with Chief Architect.
  • Proven ability to produce professional plans, elevations, 3D presentations/renderings, and construction drawings.
  • Experience with historic homes, historic districts, and historically appropriate residential design is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of residential construction methods, building codes, and drawing standards.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and accurately with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing agreed-upon project deliverables and timelines.

Contract & Compensation

  • Independent contractor/subcontractor engagement
  • Project based and overflow assignments
  • Primarily remote
  • Fort Collins/Northern Colorado area preferred for occasional in-person collaboration
  • Compensation commensurate with degree(s), experience and deliverables.
