Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled BESS Application Engineer to serve as the technical link between sales, customers, and engineering teams for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This pivotal role involves driving project proposals, system sizing, control scheme development, and providing technical guidance throughout the design, construction, and commissioning phases. The ideal candidate will ensure the delivery of optimal technical and commercial solutions, contributing significantly to project success and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Support technical sales efforts by analyzing RFPs/RFQs, developing system architecture, and creating detailed technical proposals for both standalone and PV-coupled BESS projects.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for the sales team on product offerings, financial models, and BESS operating modes.
  • Model and size BESS projects utilizing software tools and third-party consultations, including DC/AC configurations, inverter pairing, and review of use-case and manufacturer documentation.
  • Act as the technical expert in customer meetings to present solutions, clarify specifications, and negotiate technical aspects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams to finalize layouts and single-line diagrams, providing guidance on project design, construction, and commissioning schedules.
  • Support construction activities, including storage, handling, delivery procedures, and installation methods.
  • Assist in commissioning, troubleshooting, and site verification of systems.
  • Travel as needed to support sales efforts and ensure quality during system installation.
  • Pursue NABCEP Professional certification to enhance technical expertise.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with preferred experience in BESS system design and supervision.
  • Proven ability to perform system modeling, sizing, and technical analysis.
  • Strong understanding of NEC codes and basic electrical calculations related to PV design.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively engage with clients and team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email etiquette, and design software.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project support and installation oversight.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be committed to ongoing industry education and certification pursuits.
