Job Summary:
Harris County is looking to hire an AI Software Engineer. Candidates will be responsible for software development position within the Operations/Development team responsible for designing, building, integrating, testing, and supporting artificial intelligence capabilities within new and existing business applications. The role is aligned to an enterprise Microsoft technology environment and focuses on implementing practical, secure, and maintainable AI solutions across C#/.NET-based systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Partners closely with software developers, architects, business analysts, project managers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI-assisted automation, intelligent workflows.
  • Document understanding, conversational interfaces, and decision-support solutions.
  • Balances modern AI implementation practices with enterprise standards for security, scalability, maintainability, and integration with existing application platforms
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled features and services for departmental and enterprise applications.
  • Integrate AI capabilities—including large language models (LLMs), document processing, semantic search, summarization, classification, and workflow automation—into existing line-of-business applications.
  • Develop secure integrations between AI services and Microsoft technologies, including: .NET APIs, SQL Server applications, Azure services, Identity platforms Enterprise systems
  • Collaborate with architects and technical leads to establish enterprise AI solution patterns, coding standards, and development best practices emphasizing:
  • Evaluate business processes and identify opportunities where AI can improve:
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs, background services, and integration components connecting AI platforms with enterprise applications and business processes.
  • Produce clean, maintainable, well-documented code while participating in code reviews, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Monitor AI-enabled applications across development, testing, and production environments; diagnose issues; optimize prompts and orchestration logic; and continuously improve solution performance.
  • Support Responsible AI practices by implementing controls for: Data protection Access management, Human oversight, Auditability Appropriate use of AI-generated content
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional software development, systems analysis, or application engineering experience in enterprise environments, including substantial experience developing C#/.NET applications.
  • Minimum two (2) years of hands-on experience in AI development, machine learning engineering, or data analytics.
  • Experience with AI development tools, frameworks, and best practices for coding, prototyping, testing, and debugging.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting web applications, APIs, services, and integrations using technologies such as: C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core/.NET, Web API, SQL Server, Entity Framework, JSON, Related Microsoft technologies
