Job description

Clinical Responder

Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Family Counseling Center Director, the Clinical Responder delivers clinical, case management, and crisis services to persons who have been referred by local police departments. The Clinical Responder creates a positive, therapeutic environment that supports persons served in achieving their stated goals. The Clinical Responder is a member of the Mobile Crisis Response Unit (MCRU).

Reports To: Family Counseling Center Director

Network Or Department: Network 9

Essential Functions:

  • Core functions include providing therapeutic services to people referred to the program. The Clinical Responder assists the Program Manager with their core functions including partnership, community outreach, case management, data collection, benefit verification, billing, identification of referrals, follow-up, and outcome achievement.
  • Ensures that data is objectively collected
  • Facilitates individual therapy sessions and/or family therapy sessions.
  • Administers screening and assessment tools.
  • Develops treatment plan for individuals/ families engaged in treatment.
  • Participates in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and quarterly task force meetings with OPPD.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for individuals and families psychological and psychosocial needs and follows-up to identify if services were accessed.
  • Assists with service records, database, and statistics.
  • Participates in supervision biweekly Program Manager.
  • Works closely with first responders and other community entities (such as Silver Cross and Palos Hospitals).
  • Participates in Roll Call Trainings and Ride Along's
  • Responds and delivers services within 24-48 hours of referral.
  • Responds to on call emergency consultation face to face in a timely manner
  • Collaborates with other Clinical Responders and participates in weekly team meetings.
  • Assists with completes intakes, verifies insurance, and manages billing.
  • Assists with monitoring programmatic goals and outcomes continually adapting to meet or exceed them.
  • Attending court proceedings as requested and preparing related documents.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the program

Skills And Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques and principles of child and family development, family systems theory, individual, family, behavioral therapy (ACT, DBT), and crisis focused interventions.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources throughout Cook, Will, and DuPage counties.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the OPPD and local providers.
  • Ability to diagnosis under supervision using the DSM-IV TR and DSM 5.
  • Strong interest in treating people with chronic mental illness.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment and presentation.
  • Comfort with testifying in court and working with the legal system.
  • Comfort with completing petitions for involuntary hospitalization

Physical Demands:

  • Be able to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted
  • Be able to push and pull 75 pounds
  • Be able to complete deep knee squats
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Operate motor vehicles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
  • Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree mandatory. Completion of a Master's Degree in the field of psychology preferred.
  • Completion of QBS safety care training, CPR, and First aid (upon hire).
  • Experience working with people who have the diagnosis of a mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
  • Able to collaborate with team and promote good staff relationships and morale
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check
